WOW!!! Fly to Europe for $49

WOW Air is running their best sale yet. You can fly to multiple destination in Europe for only $49. That’s a price that would be considered good even for a flight from NYC to Boston. Let’s check the details of the offer.

The Offer

Fly to Europe for $49. The offer ends January 18, 2019, and applies to selected dates from January 21 – March 11.

  • Fly to Reykjavik, Brussels, Dublin, Frankfurt, London
  • Fly from Boston, Detroit, New York EWR, Washington D.C.

You can book directly on their website.

Fees

WOW’s base fares are usually unbelievable but prepare yourself to pay for any extras and don’t assume anything will be free. WOW Air charges for almost everything, so make sure you go over their list of fees before booking. You’re only allowed a free carry-on item (17x13x10 in./22 lbs), which is very very small. You’ll have to pay for a carry-on bag and checked luggage.

Seat assignment will also cost you, $9.99-$10.99. Check out the full list of fees and charges here.

Conclusion

WOW is a budget airline so this sale is not for everyone. All flights have a stop in Iceland. Flying to Iceland and several other countries in Europe just for $49 is an amazing deal. Return fares vary for each city, but you should be able to find some cheap flights, or use your miles. Wow Air is having some financial trouble, so keep that in mind.

Don’t forget to maximize your credit card rewards. Use Amex Platinum that offers 5x MR on airfare, Chase Sapphire Reserve for 3x UR on travel, or Citi Prestige for 5x TYP on airfare. You can also use travel credit from your Citi Prestige or the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

  1. In your recommended credit cards, you state Citi Prestige as 3 TYP per dollar; didn’t they raise that to 5TYP/$ last week?

  2. $49 fare only works on round trip ticket purchase.

Return flight is generally $100 to $150 more for a total ticket price in $230-$300 range.

This has been standard procedure for WOW ticket sales with the advertised low fare deal teaser only for the one way USA-Europe segment of a round trip ticket. When you check one way fares for $49 dates, then the ticket price goes from $49 to about $180 or so on most routes.

  3. “You’re only allowed a free carry-on item ” only personal items are free, ex, not what people in the US call a carry on
