WOW Air Fare Sale, Get 20% Off When You Book by 7/12

WOW Air, the Icelandic budget airline, has a new promotion that can get you a 20% discount. The discount seems to apply only on fares that are not part of a promotion so it could be useful mainly for return leg from Europe.

The Offer

WOW Air is offering a 20% discount when you book a flight by 7/12/2017 and use promo code WOWROMANCE. You can book directly on the WOW Air website and you need to enter the promo code on your initial search in the promo code box. No discount on taxes & fees.

  • Flights from Boston (BOS), New York (EWR) and Chicago (ORD), via Iceland. Available for travel August 14 through December 8, 2017. You must book a round-trip flight.
  • Flights from Pittsburgh (PIT), Miami (MIA), Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO), via Iceland. Available for travel August 14 through December 8, 2017. You must book a round-trip flight.
  • Flights from Canada and Europe. Available for travel: August 14 through December 8, 2017.

Fees

WOW’s base fares are usually unbelievable but prepare yourself to pay for any extras and don’t assume anything will be free. WOW Air charges for almost everything, so make sure you go over their list of fees before booking. You’re only allowed a free carry-on item (17x13x10 in./22 lbs), which is very very small. You’ll have to pay for a carry-on bag and checked luggage.

Seat assignment will also cost you, $9.99-$10.99. Check out the full list of fees and charges here.

Conclusion

The discount doesn’t apply to all fares, so for the first flight to Europe I see many lower prices where discount is not applied, most likely prices that are part of a promotion. But the discount is yielding best prices for the base price of return leg, which are usually more expensive.

Don’t forget to aximize your credit card rewards. Use Amex Platinum that offers 5x MR on airfare, Chase Sapphire Reserve for 3x UR on travel, or Citi Prestige for 3x TYP on airfare. You can also use travel credit from your Citi Prestige or the Chase Sapphire Reserve.
