Zoom Lifts Time Limit on Free Accounts for Thanksgiving Day
Zoom has been one of the most popular services during the pandemic. Millions of people use it everyday for work or to catch up with family and friends. But unless you have a paid account, Zoom meeting can only last up to 40 minutes.
Now the popular service is making a customers friendly change for just one day. With new restrictions put in place due to recent spikes in coronavirus cases, Thanksgiving travel is not an option for everyone. So if you want to catch up with family and don’t want to rush finishing up your turkey within 40 minutes, you can use Zoom for as long as you want.
The video communications company announced in a tweet that the 40-minute time limit will not apply on its free meetings on November 26.
As a thank you to our customers, we will be lifting the 40-minute limit for all meetings globally from midnight ET on Nov. 26 through 6 a.m. ET on Nov. 27 so your family gatherings don't get cut short. ❤️🏡 #ZoomTogether pic.twitter.com/aubsH0tfxG

The announcement comes after the CDC updated its guidance on small gatherings during the holiday season. If you want to keep using unlimited meeting minutes, paid plans start around $150-$200 per year.
Microsoft is also making a push to attract customers with a similar service called Microsoft Teams. it offers a video calling option that can be used for free and has no time limits. Microsoft Teams was launched on mobile earlier this year, but it’s now available in desktop and web for up to 300 people per meeting. You won’t need a Microsoft Account or the Microsoft Teams app to join calls, as you can join free via a web browser.
