Vegas Strip Casino Reopenings – ARIA, Mandalay Bay & Luxor

This past weekend Las Vegas re-opened with some fan fair and perhaps less masks than most people (or at least I) expected. Either way I am happy for Las Vegas to be back open to tourists. Tourism means a lot to the local economy and so many people in the community count on the casinos for their livelihoods.

Even though people are returning to Sin City, the entire Las Vegas Strip is not open. MGM Resorts International who controls a number of properties on the Strip, opened only three casinos in the first few days of the Vegas re-opening. Bellagio, MGM Grand and New York New York all are open, but many others are not.

Three More Las Vegas Strip Casinos to Reopen

Today MGM Resorts announced when the next round of openings will occur. Specifically, they announced the re-opening dates for Luxor Las Vegas, ARIA and Mandalay Bay (including Four Seasons). So when will the next round of Las Vegas Strip casinos re-open? Let’s take a look.

  • Luxor and the Shoppes at Mandalay Bay Place – Reopens June 25, 2020 at 10 am Pacific.
  • ARIA – Reopens July 1, 2020 at 10am Pacific
  • Mandalay Bay & Four Seasons Las Vegas – Reopen July 1, 2020 at 11am Pacific

“It was exciting and emotional to see the energy in Las Vegas last week as we welcomed back our employees and reopened our doors to guests for the first time in months,” said Bill Hornbuckle, MGM Resorts’ Acting CEO and President. “Our guests are having a great time and are thrilled to be back in the city they love. We are eager to get more of our employees back to work and enhance the Las Vegas experience with additional resorts.”

Excalibur Opening Too – June 11, 2020

A couple of days ago Hornbuckle announced the June 11, 2020 reopening of Excalibur Las Vegas while hinting at an early July return for ARIA. This confirmation along with the Mandalay Bay and Luxor announcements shows MGM thinks demand is strong for Vegas. After these announcements the only two properties without reopening dates are Park MGM and Mirage. Parts of MGM Grand (Signature), Mandalay Bay (Delano) and City Center (Vdara) remain without a date as well as far as I can tell.

Our Thoughts

Based on everything I saw on the Strip and stories I have seen from casinos across Nevada, I think people are heading back in droves. While the casinos will continue to practice all of the healthy and safety protocols they implemented, it’s clear people are ready for Vegas and Vegas is quickly getting ready for them.

Vegas Strip Casino Reopenings – Bottom Line

MGM Resorts International is ramping up their Las Vegas Strip casinos faster than expected due to higher demand. With this announcement we have learned that thousands of more hotel rooms, slot machines and tables will be brought online in the next couple of weeks with the Strip slowly working towards being fully open.

  1. went to vegas a few days ago. some hotels are more strict that others. they have free amsk, gloves and hand washing stations, stay home if youre scared til a vaccine lol

  2. With Covid-19 cases still on the rise in many states, going to Vegas is too risky a bet. Unless every Vegas visitor is required to wear a mask indoors (as well as on the airplanes that will get them there), I’d rather stay home.

    • I wish casinos required everyone to wear a mask indoors. I stayed at the Caesars Palace this past weekend and my friend and I were pretty stunned at how many people were not wearing a mask. We noticed that at the other casinos as well. All employees were wearing them, which is great. The casinos were fairly packed for the most part. You still can social distance but it takes effort. My friend and I wore masks the entire time and felt fine walking around as long as we kept a decent distance from others.

What corcerning about this is that, while Nevada cases might be small, relatively, CA cases are still huge and other people from other Hotspots are flying in. if people get infected, trying to trace people you might have exposed would be literally impossible due to the shear amount of transient people Vegas has. Nevada might not see this extra spike in cases because by the time people show symptoms, they would have left Vegas.

Very curious to see what happens.

      • California has a lot more cases because it’s a far more populous state. On a per-capita basis it actually has fewer cases than Nevada.

But your point remains valid when we think about any current or future hot spots… going to a place like Vegas now means mingling with people from the worst-infected parts of the country where there’s no sense of public health.

Remember that wearing a face mask protects people from you, not the other way around. We ought to do our part but as long as there’s one inconsiderate person around with the virus and not wearing a mask – we’d all be screwed.

    • That will never happen because wearing masks infringes on peoples’ freedom to spread COVID-19 😛
