$600 Payments Are Already Showing Up in Some Accounts

The second Covid-19 relief package was passed in Congress and it provides direct payments of $600 for millions of Americans. You can find some of the most important details of the bill here. It was then signed over the weekend by President Trump. It wasn’t clear if people would start seeing payments in 2020, but the bill has actually been implemented very quickly.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Tuesday that distribution of $600 stimulus checks was about to begin, with some seeing direct deposits as soon as Tuesday night. Mnuchin said in a series of tweets that the Treasury has delivered a payment file to the Federal Reserve. In fact people has started reporting on social media that payments have been received late Tuesday and today.

Paper checks will be mailed out beginning Wednesday, Mnuchin said, with overall distribution continuing into next week. Americans will also be able to check on the status of their stimulus payment online. The website should become functional later this week.

The second round of payments will be distributed automatically. The relief package provides $600 for eligible individuals, $1,200 for couples filing jointly and up to $600 for each child. The bill also extended key unemployment benefits and allocated additional funding for small businesses. Those who file for unemployment will receive an additional $300 weekly payment for 11 weeks.
