Fantastic Best Buy Deal
Update: The phone now seems to be available via shipping only whereas previously you could pick it up in store. Unless you order $35 or more, they charge $3.99 shipping which changes the calculations, although it is still a great deal.
Best Buy has a pretty good deal on the Nokia Lumia 635 GoPhone for AT&T. Currently the phone is being sold for $19.99 (down from $49.99) until 3pm CT as part of their 4 hour sale. That is a good price, but you can do so much better.
My Best Buy Members (free to join) can get $25 in My Best Buy points with the purchase of any Smartphone. You can find the details here. If we combine the offers, it looks something like this:
- Cost of the phone: $20
- Discover portal cashback 5% (next best portal is around 1%): $1
- Total cost: $19
- Merchandise credit: $25
So you end up with a phone and $25 in Best Buy credit for $19 out of pocket. ($18 if you have the Discover double cashback promotion.)
Selling on eBay
The phone is currently selling for $35-$45 on eBay with a number of sold listings over the past few days. The average sales price is probably in the low $40s. Even if you sell it for $35 and clear $25 after shipping and fees, the math looks like this.
- Out of pocket cost: $19
- Proceeds from eBay: $25
- Profit $6 + $25 in Best Buy credit
Of course you can keep the phone and still pocket $25 in Best Buy credit. This is a great deal all around. For more details see this Slickdeals thread.

Gone. I’m curious how you got the $25 Rewards Certificate to combine with this offer? I had one in my cart right as it was dying, but my cart only showed 21 POINTS.
Thanks, Shawn. How do you avoid the $3.99 (or more) shipping charge? Says its available only for shipping.
It was available for pickup when I posted. Now it seems the only way to avoid the shipping charge is to purchase $35 or more. I’ll update the post.
