Airfare Steal Japan Airlines
Update: It seems many of the dates have expired, although I am still seeing about $2,400 roundtrip.
Wow I just found an amazing deal on the Flyertalk Premium Fare Deals forum. I was browsing through the forum and saw an interesting business class fare posted about a week ago for Japan Airlines for $2,400 roundtrip.
But today it appears that price has dropped to about $1,400 roundtrip. The fare is for flights from PDX-NRT mostly on Japan Airlines, with some flights on Air Canada, Alaska or AA depending on your routing. I have personally booked for next year.
Here is what you need to know:
- This deal should work with Ultimate Rewards, ThankYou Points and Membership Rewards and other points currencies
- This would be a good use of the 35% Business Platinum rebate
- It requires a 2 week minimum stay
- You can use Google Flights to search and find the fares. Here is an example
- I am seeing December, 2019 and June/July 2020 before the Olympics. Other dates appear to be available for not much more including some Olympic dates. For example this ticket overlaps the Olympics for less than $2K. Google Flights
- The JAL flights appear to be in the X class
In addition to using points you can book on OTAs such as Orbitz or Expedia
I want to get this out quickly, but I’ll update this as I find more.
Happy flying!

Fares may be gone, lowest I am finding is in 2400, even the one you shared is now at $6100 🙁
Thanks. I’ll update the post!
Great notation James. DM is the type of person where the glass is always half empty
Why do you bother responding to idiots like DM who need to be spoonfed?
I don’t know DM but there’s no call to be rude. S/he may not know and it certainly is useful to future readers who may be dissuaded from looking after reading the comment.
Ehhhh….you didn’t mention that the flight goes thru YVR and the JL flights to/from YVR are on their 767…angled flat seats ☹️
I booked through SEA on a 787-8 in their new suite. I also saw through LAX on the 777 which is a lie flat product as well. There were many dates available and many options for both of those cities when I posted this.
