Amazon Will Start Accepting Venmo Payments in 2022

Amazon is a popular online retailer, but unlike other sites, it doesn’t allow many payment options when you make purchases. You can use credit cards and debit cards and not much else. You can see a full list of options here.

But that will soon change. PayPal has announced announced it will team-up with Amazon to allow Venmo’s more than 80 million users in the U.S. to pay with Venmo at checkout using funding methods that include their linked bank account and Venmo balance. It will not be possible to use a credit cards to fund your purchase.

Starting next year, customers will be able to make purchases on Amazon.com and the Amazon mobile shopping app in the U.S. using their Venmo accounts. However you will not be able to purchase from the website using PayPal itself.

“We understand our customers want options and flexibility in how they make purchases on Amazon,” said Ben Volk, Director of Global Payment Acceptance, Amazon. “We’re excited to team-up with Venmo and give our customers the ability to pay by using their Venmo accounts, providing new ways to pay on Amazon.”

PayPal has not provided a specific timeframe or any additional details about how those Venmo transactions might work. We’ll probably hear more about the new payment option the closer we get to its availability in 2022.
