Amazon Pantry Discontinued
Amazon Pantry, previously known as Prime Pantry, has been discontinued. The service was first launched in 2014 to offer consumers an affordable way for deliveries of household and pantry items. For a flat fee of $5.99 you could have a box that could hold up to 45 pounds of nonperishable household essentials delivered to your home. At the tike this was an innovative service, and a cheap one at that.
In 2018 the service changed to a $5 per month subscription, that was added to the Prime membership price. It offered unlimited Pantry orders of $40 or more each month, and you would have to pay a flat $7.99 fee for smaller orders.
The service was then temporarily halted in March of last year, due to overwhelming demand sparked by nationwide COVID-19 lockdowns. With all the other delivery options, Amazon has now decided to get rid of it for good.
“As part of our commitment to delivering the best possible customer experience, we have decided to transfer Amazon Pantry selection to the main Amazon.com store so customers can get everyday household products faster, without an extra subscription or purchase requirement,” an Amazon spokeswoman said in an email as per Bloomberg.
The Amazon Pantry page now sends customers toward Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods, which deliver household items in addition to fresh groceries. There’s also a section of Amazon’s main retail site titled “Pantry Staples” where you can find many of the items that Amazon pantry would provide. Most of these products are eligible for free one-day shipping through Prime.
