How I Used My 50% Off Amazon Pay with Points Offer & Tips for Maximizing!

Amazon Pay With Points How To

One of my favorite ongoing deals these past few years has been the Amazon Pay with Points promos we see. While they do have offers for Chase, Citi and other banks, the big winners for me have been the offers for using Amex Membership Rewards. I recently was targeted again for this offer and thought I would share what I purchased.

The Offer

  • Get 50% off eligible products when using Membership Rewards with a maximum discount of $80.

Note: You may also be targeted for a lesser offer giving 40% off, 15% off or something else. Check your eligibility for the Amazon Amex Pay with Points promo here.

Why You Should Check Amazon Pay with Points Offers Often

Over the years I have been targeted for similar offers many times. The cool thing is these offers are refreshed regularly and sometimes they improve. For example, a few days ago I checked a couple of accounts that previously had the 15% off version of the offer. That one wasn’t juicy enough to get me to bite, but when I found 50% off on one account and 40% off on another I was ready to go!

I should also note that I had checked these accounts just about a week ago, so the offer improved in the last few days. I’ve seen this happen quite a lot over the years which is why I often check my accounts. This is especially true around Prime Day and the holidays. In the past I’ve had accounts get 40% off several times during the holiday period.

How I Used My 50% Off Amazon Offer

In the past I’ve purchased many different things with these offers, but mostly Best Buy gift cards which I then sold for cash. Earlier this year I also picked up Best Buy gift cards at a discount with this offer and purchased a television that I wanted. But this time I did something a little different.

The other day Benjy mentioned he was taking advantage of one of these offers to purchase Uber gift cards. In fact, this is what made me go check my accounts again where I found the new 50% off and 40% off offers on two accounts. Knowing that I have a lot of travel and potential Uber use coming up, I decided to go the same route as Benjy. Using only 1 Membership Rewards point + charging the rest to my card, I purchased $310 worth of Uber gift cards for $170. About a 45% discount. Not bad.

Uber Gift Card Warning

One thing to know about Uber gift cards is that they are used before your Amex credits so some planning is required. I think I am going to load the cards to my wife’s account since all of our Amex Uber credits go to mine. This way they aren’t mixed and I don’t run into that problem. It isn’t a big deal if you use Uber a lot, but can be a pain if you didn’t know about it. No one wants to lose their Amex Uber credits, because they scored a nice gift card deal!

Maximizing with Multiple Amazon Accounts & How To Get Targeted

So the big question is how you get targeted for these offers? First, you need to have a card earning that program’s points linked to your account. So for the Amex version you need an Amex Membership Rewards card on your account and that goes the same for the other banks. When you load the cards to your account make sure the pay with points by default option is disabled so it doesn’t automatically deduct points when you use the card. Hopefully after linking you will eventually get targeted for an offer.

One other way to perhaps get more of these offers is via multiple accounts. I want to be clear I am not saying to open up tons of new accounts for the same people, but it is plausible for everyone in a household to have their own account plus if you have a business, don’t forget to open an Amazon Business Account for that as well. In fact, both the 40% and 50% coupons I got this round were on my business accounts.

Amazon Pay With Points How To – Bottom Line

I’ve saved thousands of dollars on gift cards over the years by utilizing these deals. While they work for almost all items sold by Amazon.com, I personally tend to use them for gift cards that I either use myself or sell for a profit. Either way, it’s worth checking and if you have the 40% off or 50% off coupons then you might want to jump on them.
