American Express is targeting some current cardholders with an offer to earn 40,000 Membership Rewards points for upgrading to the Gold card. The offer is showing on the Green card, under the Amex Offers section.

Upgrade to the American Express Gold Card and earn 40,000 Membership Rewards Bonus Points after you spend $2,000 in purchases on the Card within your first 3 months of Card Membership.
Annual fee of $250.

Conclusion
A good offer that will earn you 40,000 Membership Rewards points for upgrading to the Gold card. That’s just 10,000 points short of the current signup bonus. By upgrading you also miss out on a referral bonus, but you save yourself a hard pull. It also gives you the opportunity to get the bonus once again if you already had the card in the past.

I was just targetted for this after only seeing the 15,000 offer for quite a while. I have a Zync card that I got back in 2012 but I didn’t get the offer on my other everyday card.
I’ll keep checking but I have been getting 15,000 MR upgrade offers after $1k of spend. Interesting in that the offer shows up on my credit cards (everyday) and the offer says my account number won’t change which tells me it would be an upgrade from my Green card. When my AF comes due soon, I’ll call to see if I get that 40k offer. Definitely worth that vs. 50-60k new card offer to keep open a 5/24 slot.
