American Airlines Starts Its Own Wine Club
Air travel is still far from normal due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There are new rules in place and even onboard service is scaled back to limit interaction. Alcohol is also banned in some cases which means that airlines have a lot of it left over.
Now, American Airlines is starting its own ‘wine club’, hoping to sell and ship some of its excess wine directly to customers. They can enjoy some of AA’s fine wines in their living rooms instead of an American flight.
The company announced Thursday in a press release the launch of Flagship Cellars. The service will give customers a chance to buy wine by the bottle, in custom “curated” cases, or via a monthly subscription plan that costs $99 per month.
American Airlines says that wines considered for the program undergo a thorough process. “Twice a year, the wine experts identify top selections based on their notes and historical data.” It’s then up to its “award-winning master sommelier to blind taste wines before presenting final options to a variety of American team members to solicit feedback and identify which wines are best suited for onboard and in lounges.”
Flagship Cellars
How the Flagship Cellars wine experience works:
- American will hand-pick wines from its Flagship wine collection, chosen by an award-winning master sommelier exclusively for American.
- Anyone 21 years or older can select their wine preferences at vinesse.com/flagshipcellars.
- Customers can select from curated collections of mixed wines, build their own custom box, or purchase a monthly wine subscription which includes three prestigious wines for $99.99, including delivery.
- Subscriptions may be for a limited time (while supplies last) and can be canceled at any time. Introductory offer includes an extra complimentary bottle of wine. Program and availability limitations on orders vary by state.
In addition, members of the American Airlines AAdvantage® loyalty program can earn two miles per dollar spent on every order. They just need to provide their AAdvantage number during checkout. Taxes, shipping and fees will not earn miles.
