American Express Revamps Gold Card

American Express today unveiled a revamped Gold Card with new benefits, a White Gold design option, and a new welcome bonus. With those changes also comes a higher annual fee. Let’s see these changes and how you can find an offer for up to 100,000 points and 20% back on dining.

Welcome Bonus

The Amex Gold card has a new public offer for 60,000 points plus 20% back on dining (up to $100 credit). But you can find better offers with a clean browser, for 90,000 or 100,000 points. Here are the details:

  • Earn 100,000 Membership Rewards® Points after you spend $6,000 on eligible purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership.
  • Plus, receive 20% Back in Statement Credits on eligible purchases made at restaurants worldwide within the first 6 months of Card Membership, up to $100 back.

Changes in Benefits

All these changes were already revealed, but now that they are live, we have some more details.

Enrollment is required and may take up to 24 hours to take effect on your bard.
  • $84 Dunkin Credit: Earn up to $7 in statement credits per month for eligible Dunkin’ purchases, for a total of up to $84 per calendar year in statement credits across all cards on the account. Enrollment is required and may take up to 24 hours to take effect on your Card.

Annual Fee Increase

The annual fee for the American Express® Gold Card is now $325 for new applicants, up from $250. That’s an increase of $75.

There is no annual fee for up to 5 Additional Cards. The annual fee for 6 or more Additional Cards is $35 for each Card.

Current cardholders will to pay the higher $325 annual fee on renewals on or after October 1, 2024.

New Design

As part of the Amex Gold Card revamp, American Express has also launched a new design option. You can now choose either the Gold, Rose Gold or Limited Edition White Gold design when applying for the American Express® Gold Card. The White Gold design is available while supplies last.

Conclusion

I’m sure most people are not very excited with the changes in benefits. While you do get more credits for Resy and Dunkin, they just add more to the monthly to-do list for maximizing credit card benefits. Plus you’ll be paying $75 more annually for these benefits.

The good thing is that you can possibly get a welcome bonus of up to 100,000 Membership Rewards points, plus up to $100 in dining credits. That would make it worthwhile for those who are eligible for the bonus.
