Amex Adds Qatar as New Travel Partner

American Express has a new transfer partner for Membership Rewards members. As of July 26, 2023, you can transfer your Amex points to Qatar Airways Privilege Club. The new addition brings the number of Membership Rewards transfer partners to 21.

American Express didn’t make an official announcement yesterday, but Qatar Airways Privilege Club is already showing in Amex accounts, and you can transfer points right away.

How to Works

You can now transfer Membership Rewards points to Qatar Privilege Club at a ratio of 1:1. Membership Rewards members can transfer points in increments of 1,000 points. That means that 1,000 Membership Rewards points will get you 1,000 Qatar Avios (Qatar switched to Avios last year). Transfers should be instant, but may take up to 48 hours.a white background with blue and red text

To transfer points, go to here and scroll down to find Qatar Airways Privilege Club. Then proceed to link your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account.

Conclusion

Qatar Airways now uses Avios as its points currency, which means that transferring Amex Membership Rewards points to Qatar Airways was already possible through the other airlines that also use Avios. However, the process is now easier, as you don’t need to go through an extra step.

British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus, Aer Lingus AerClub all use Avios and they are Amex transfer partners as well. There’s also a transfer bonus right now for two of these airlines. You can transfer Avios between programs with few restrictions.
