Most Amex Consumer Card Bonuses Get Additional $200 Credit, Plus Improved Referrals

American Express surprised us today with improved welcome offers for most personal credit cards. In addition to the usual offers, you can now get up to $200 statement credit for select purchases. With popular stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot included, this makes all bonuses $200 better. On top of that, referrals have also been improved. Let’s see the details.

Welcome Offers

These improved offers are available for the following American Express consumer cards:

  • American Express® Green Card
  • American Express® Gold Card
  • The Platinum Card® from American Express
  • Cash Magnet® Card
  • Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express Card
  • Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card
  • Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card
  • Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card
  • Blue Cash Preferred® Card
  • Blue Cash Everyday® Card
  • Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card
  • Amex EveryDay® Credit Card

Besides the welcome bonus that we have recently seen on these card, you get the following:

  • Plus, Earn Up to $200 Back in Statement Credits on eligible purchases at select U.S. home furnishing stores made with your new Card within your first 3 months of Card Membership.
  • Eligible purchases are qualifying purchases in-store, online and via mobile app at The Home Depot, Lowe’s, The Container Store, Bed Bath & Beyond, Crate and Barrel, Crate and Kids, CB2, Anthropologie and Terrain.
  • Apply by 05/05/2021.

As you can see, these limited-time offers are currently available for all American Express Consumer Card products, except Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors Card products.

Referral Bonuses

It gets even better. These offers area available through public links and referrals. That means that the person referring you also gets a bonus, which sometimes is as high as 30,000 points. But now the referral bonuses have been improved as well with the possibility of earning extra points at select U.S. home furnishing stores:

  • Refer A Friend to apply by 5/5.
  • Once they’re approved, you can earn +4 Membership Rewards® points per dollar on your eligible purchases at the following select U.S. home furnishing stores, on up to $25,000 in combined purchases for three months: Anthropologie – Home & Furniture, Bed Bath & Beyond, CB2, Crate and Barrel, Crate and Kids, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Terrain, and The Container Store.

Conclusion

American Express already has great welcome bonuses for several consumer cards, such as Gold Card, Green Card, Delta cards etc. Now all those bonuses get better with the additional $200 statement  credit that most people can easily use at popular home furnishing stores.

And, if you have a friend or family member who can refer you, they get the usual referral bonus plus 4X Membership Rewards® points per dollar on eligible purchases of up to $25K at Lowe’s, Home Depot etc.

While these bonuses are very generous, American Express is stingy with matching offers. If you have applied recently, could still be worth contacting Amex and see if they can match you to these latest offers.

  1. I just opened a gold card account 3/1. Didn’t realize they had eliminated the airline fee credit in February. I am traveling in the next few weeks so could have used for baggage fees. They said they “replaced” it with the Uber credit but the Uber credit is not useful to me. I rarely use Uber/Lyft. I could make it work for Uber Eats by ordering out but you can only use it in increments of $10.00 a month so that really makes it a joke – except for maybe ordering a takeout coffee or something. Then I see that they’ve added the $200.00 credit for stores such as Home Depot which would also be very useful to me. I must have applied at the worst time for credits. Just got burned on this. So I asked via chat (was outside phone hours) if they would match the $200 credit as it has been less than 2 weeks since my account opened. The chat customer service rep refused but I asked him to send it up the chain. I will check back in a week or so to see. But my bad timing.
