Analysis
Currently the Amex Gold card has a public bonus of 60,000 Membership Rewards points. That offer is also available through referrals, which makes every Amex bonus much better.
This offer from Resy comes with the same 60,000 Membership Rewards points, but also earns you up to $250. That comes in the form of 20% back as a statement credit on purchases made at restaurants. This is capped at $1,250 in spend over 12 months. So it should be easy to maximize for most people as you only need to spend about $104 per month.
Considering that your Amex Gold card is probably your go to card for restaurant spend anyway, then we can count this as a full $250 value.
So whether you should go with the Resy offer, or use a friend’s or family member’s referral, really depends on what kind of referral bonus you would get. Even a 20K referral bonus would be a better option for most people than $250 in cash. Some people also see referral bonuses as high as 30K sometimes, which would definitely make it the way to go.
Conclusion
This is a great offer for the Amex Gold Card. If you have never had the card in the past this is the best time to apply. If you can get a big referral bonus, then that is probably the best route. But you are also getting a great deal with 60K Membership rewards points and up to $250 back at restaurants.

Thanks Danny. Your post prompted me to use my 30k referral bonus to apply for a Gold card for my wife. She was approved with the 60k bonus. My 30k is worth $375 via the Schwab route. Double dipping on the airline credit is worth another $100 along with the monthly dining credit and the upcoming Uber credits this is an all-round great deal.
