Amex Hilton Surpass 100K Offer

Amex Hilton Surpass 100K Offer

A couple of months ago American Express released an 85,000 point offer on their co-branded Hilton HHonors Surpass card. My wife actually applied and was approved under that previously “best ever” offer on the card. Now they seem to have upped the ante with a 100K offer! Let’s take a look.

The Offer

Earn 100,000 Hilton HHonors points after spending $3,000 in the first three months. Expires 5/04/2016.

Key Features

  • Hilton HHonors Gold status.
  • Diamond status after $40K in spend a year. (Find out how you can match to HHonors Diamond.)
  • 12X points at Hilton Hotels, 6X at U.S. restaurants, supermarkets and gas stations and 3X everywhere else.

My Thoughts

I have written before about where I believe the value with Hilton HHonors is. For me, redemptions in the lower categories can often be a very good value. For example, this bonus is good for 20 nights in a category 1, 10 nights in a category 2 or 5 nights in a category 3. That is a lot of value, especially considering Gold elite status gets you upgrades and free breakfast at most properties.

Referrals

If you are a current holder of the Surpass card then you can refer your friends to this offer and earn 15,000 points per successful referral up to 80,000 points per year. As of right now the referral email that is sent out says the bonus is only 60K, but the actual application shows the 100K bonus.

Conclusion

American Express has been very agressive with bonuses lately. In the past few months we have seen best ever offers on both of the co-branded Hilton cards and both of the SPG cards as well. To me this offer is very attractive considering my Diamond status which gets me upgrades and breakfast at a lot of properties. If my wife hadn’t recently signed up I would definitely jump on this.

  1. Technically you can get 25 nights with the 5th night free. We took a full month in Egypt a bit ago for just 120k points by taking advantage of 5th night free.

    • It depends on if you have plans for the points and how you value them. Since you can only get a bonus once, I tend to think it is best to get the highest one, but there is value in a conversion as well since your account history stays in tact.

      • Just got the SPG Biz approved so gotta do 5k there…if I am able to get it done by May (or mostly done) I may go for this one…just hesitant if a pull is worth an extra 2-250 in value. No set plans for Hilton points but they always come in handy!
