Transfer Amex Membership Rewards, Get 40% More Marriott and Hilton Points
American Express is running two transfer bonuses right now for its Membership Rewards program. You can get an additional 40% in points when you transfer to either Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors. These are not the most exciting promotions, but can still be useful in certain cases. Let’s see the details.
Marriott Bonvoy 40% Transfer Bonus
American Express has a transfer bonus promotion going on where you can get 40% more Marriott Bonvoy points when you transfer Membership Rewards points. The regular transfer ratio is 1000 Membership Rewards points = 1000 Marriott points. So with this promotion you can get 1000 Membership Rewards points = 1400 Marriott points.
This transfer bonus promotion from American Express runs through June 15, 2021.
Key Terms
- Minimum transfer is 1,000 Membership Rewards points.
- The additional Marriott Bonvoy Bonus Points will be awarded at the time of transfer.
- Expired June 15, 2021.
Hilton Honors 40% Transfer Bonus
American Express also has a transfer bonus for Hilton Honors with an additional 40% more Hilton points when you transfer Membership Rewards. The regular transfer ratio is 1000 Membership Rewards points = 2000 Hilton Honors points. So with this promotion you can get 1000 Membership Rewards points = 2800 Hilton Honors points.
This transfer bonus promotion from American Express also runs through June 15, 2021.
Key Terms
- Minimum transfer is 1,000 Membership Rewards points.
- The additional Hilton Honors Bonus Points will be awarded at the time of transfer.
- Offer expires June 15, 2021.
Conclusion
Transferring American Express Membership rewards points to Marriott will not make sense for most people, even with this added bonus. The regular transfer ratio is terrible at just 1:1. Now you get 1:1.4 which still gives you a value of less than one cent per Membership Rewards point.
With Hilton it gets a little better. The ratio is normally at 1:2, so the added bonus bring the transfer ratio to 1:2.8. That is not a great option, but it gets close to a decent valuation for your Membership Rewards points.
Either way, these transfer bonuses only make sense if you have a very goo redemption in mind and need some more points to top off your accounts. It is definitely not worth transferring speculatively to either program.
