Amex Platinum Upgrade Offers

Amex Platinum Cards Upgrade Offers

The new benefits and an increased annual fee kicked in yesterday for the American Express Platinum cards. Now we’re seeing some targeted offers for both the personal and business versions of the card. I’ve provided links below, but most likely if you’re targeted, you should see the offers when you log into your account.

The Offers

Business Gold Rewards to Business Platinum – 75,000 Membership Rewards Points:

To be eligible to earn 50,000 Membership Rewards points, you must charge $10,000 of qualifying purchases* on the Business Platinum Card in the first five months from the date your account is upgraded. To earn an extra 25,000 points (for a total of 75,000 points), you must charge an additional $10,000 of qualifying purchases (for a total of $20,000) on the Card in the same period. Your request for the Business Platinum Card must be received by 12/31/2017. This offer is available for first-time upgrades to the Business Platinum Card only and for one Card account only. Upgrade offer link. Offer terms.

Premier Rewards Gold to Platinum – 60,000 Membership Rewards Points:

To be eligible to earn the 60,000 Membership Rewards points, you must be enrolled in the Membership Rewards program at the time of purchase. 60,000 Membership Rewards points will be credited to your account after you charge a total of $5,000 (the “Threshold Amount”) or more of purchases on your Platinum Card® from American Express within the first 3 months of Platinum Card® Membership. Qualifying purchases can be made by the Basic Card Member and any Additional Card Members on a single Card account. Upgrade offer link. Offer terms.

Annual Fee

When you upgrade, your card anniversary date doesn’t change. You will be charged a prorated annual membership fee for your new Card based on the time remaining until your next account anniversary date.

Conclusion

This is a great offer if you’re targeted. There’s no hard pull when upgrading, and you can receive the upgrade bonus even if you’ve had the card previously. You could also possibly still be eligible for future offers on the card, even after the upgrade.

Are you targeted?

  1. I received an offer from AMEX to upgrade from my Gold Card to Platinum and receive 60,000 Membership Reward Points if I spend $5,000 over the next 3 months. I called AMEX and asked if they would consider offering me 100,000 Membership Reward points to upgrade. They said no. Oh well, I gave it a shot.
