Another Devaluation for Choice Points
Earlier this month we saw a devaluation of Choice points for redemptions at Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Free nights were previously capped at 55,000 Choice points and then jumped to 87,000 points.
At the time, there was no chance to redemptions for Choice Hotels properties which were still priced between 6,000 and 35,000 points per night. This was stated on the program’s website.
But now instead of that range between 6,000 and 35,000 points, the website states that “Reward nights at Choice Hotels® properties start at just 8,000 points.”
The first change is that the cheapest properties get more expensive, going from 6,000 to 8,000 points. But also there’s no cap on the cost of award nights.
While rates at many hotels remain unchanged, some properties are already adjusting prices, with nights costing as high as 45,000 points.
One example is Blue Angel Hotel NYC, Ascend Hotel Collection. Most nights over the summer are priced at 45,000 points. There are few other properties that are now priced over 35,000 per night.
Conclusion
Devaluations are unavoidable for loyalty programs. It’s always a good idea to not keep your miles and points for a long period of time as they tend to lose value.
So if you have Choice points you should probably start looking to book your next stay before your favorite property gets more expensive.

what a Joke. Terrible hotel chain that should be giving rooms away. Choice & Wyndham by far have the worst programs and I think Choice has passed Wyndham now.
