Favorite experiences this year (despite being a 2.6 million miler on AA) was 2 quick staycations burning our certificates at 2 local DFW area hotels. The Drover in FW with all the Christmas decor at the Fort Worth Stockyards, and the Thompson Dallas.
What made it special for us was being able to bring our old dog to really pet friendly places.
The AA million miler statuses are absolutely worthless. Lifetime Sapphire (2 million physical miles) would offer lifetime business class lounges when traveling on international itineraries. But, to travel those 2 million physical miles, it would likely cost someone about $400k. Given that dollar number, someone could easily qualify for Executive Platinum for over 20 years and have superior benefits. Or, Platinum Pro for nearly 30 years. (Both receiving first class lounge access and Flagship check-in.)
The article missed one point on BA’s Lifetime Gold: lifetime lounge access is lifetime FIRST CLASS lounge access. A true frequent flier could easily attain the 35,000 tier points in 10 to 15 years. Very attainable.
