Around the Web Articles

‎Freakonomics Radio: The Economics of Everyday Things: Used Hotel Soaps on Apple Podcasts

If you ever wondered what happens to used hotel soaps then this is an interesting podcast to listen to. While disposable soaps seem to be going away at many hotels, there are still millions of bars used every single year.

The most exciting hotel openings coming in 2023

While most of these hotels won’t be available with miles & points, it is always fun to look at the new properties opening and the overall direction of the hotel industry. There are some very nice properties on this list.

Lufthansa Launches Intriguing “Green Fares”

An interesting idea to get people to buy in on carbon offsetting. I wonder how many will pay for these green fares. They do come with free rebooking and extra miles as well, but time will tell how successful they are.

Ways to Help Turkey and Syria

A list of places where you can donate to help the relief efforts from the recent earthquake.

Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts now (sort of) allows booking in someone else’s name

It might not officially be a new rule, but this is quite useful for those of us who use Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts for our Platinum $200 credits each year. Think of using a spouse’s credit when they aren’t there or any number of other uses. I hope this stick around.

  1. I know you are trying to do well, but definitely your business model is going to suffer with the massive devaluations in all points and miles for hotels and flights. They are turning the screws on the ‘dynamic pricing’ model and they are going to squeeze a lot of your readers/referrals right out of this game. You can downplay the destruction of value in points/miles, but it’s there in black and white when making any sort of booking right now.
