When you sell gift cards on 3rd party sites like these, what happens if the buyer of the gift card lies and claims the card had no value? Who ends up being out the money?
It’s pretty easy to find out when the card was used. I’ve never run across that problem before.
There is a possibility of getting burned but I have only had it happen for $100 worth after selling a few hundred thousand dollars in the gift cards over the last several years. I can’t guarantee anything but it hasn’t been a huge issue for me. There are always some risks involved but it has been pretty minimal.
It generally depends. On Raise it depends on the brand, but in many cases they have relationships with the brands where they can investigate. They will see where it was used and how, etc. They also auto-check balances as a card is sold so they know they are delivering a good card. That isn’t possible with all brands, but it does protect sellers in a lot of cases. Ultimately though there is fraud and sometimes you have to eat the value of cards. This happened with The Children’s Place awhile back. I won’t touch one of their cards with a 10 foot pole now. Terrible company.
I’ve been selling for The Card Bay for over a year now. It’s much better run than TPM was. I know a lot of people are afraid of being burned after what happened at TPM, but I’ve been very satisfied and haven’t seen any red flags.
