Update on the Banana Republic Visa
Over the past couple of weeks I have been talking about different aspects of my recent round of credit card applications. It wasn’t the most straightforward round since I applied for three cards that many of you have probably never heard of.
- First there was the NBA Amex card where the $200 bonus and Amex Offers are nice, but my real plan is to take advantage of its 5X everywhere earnings during NBA All Star Weekend and the NBA Finals.
- There is also the Citi HHonors Visa Signature and its 75K bonus that I will use to supplement my account balance so I can take advantage of my HHonors Diamond status matched from Hyatt.
- Finally there is the Banana Republic Visa card. This card application was speculative because I am hoping to get lucrative 5X-10X promotions in the future like many of their cardholders.
The Banana Republic Visa Offer
Other than 500 points (worth $5) for opting out of paper statements and 15% off your first online order, the Banana Republic credit card doesn’t have an advertised sign-up bonus. For me, the potential of receiving future offers on this no annual fee card was worth applying, but I did get a nice surprise in the mail when I received the card.
When I opened the package I noticed the above advertisement. All I need to do is use the card once outside of their brands (Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, etc.) within the first 30 days and they’ll give me $30 in rewards. I think this is sort of a sign-up bonus. $30 after first purchase.
Since I don’t want to spend more on the card than I need to (yet), I decided to put it in my wallet to use for a small purchase when one comes up. I could have also just purchased a tiny Amazon gift card, but decided not to hassle with that. This morning when I was at Walmart feeding KATE, I purchased an iced tea at the McDonald’s inside for $1.08! That should net me the $30 in rewards.
Conclusion
It is always nice when you receive a pleasant surprise that you weren’t expecting. In this case I am hoping this is the first bonus of many with the Banana Republic Visa card. While $30 isn’t much, I am hopeful it is just the appetizer to a 5X or 10X offer that will usher in an era where everyone in my family wears clothes from Banana Republic and ONLY Banana Republic. 😉

You could always reload your Amazon gift card for a dollar. Quick & easy.
It is $30 good at Banana Republic, Gap, Old Navy, etc, not for cash.
I’ve had this card for many years. They sent me the same promo when they updated my card to a chip card this fall.
They do sent some pretty good promos. If you wife shops at LOFT, that card has similar promos.
Do you need to use the $30 credit on Banana Republic or can it be used where VISA is accepted or a refund ck mailed to you?
