Barclays Launches 3 Credit Cards for AARP Members

Barclays has launched a new suite of co-branded credit cards for AARP members. There are two new cards called the AARP Essential Rewards Mastercard and AARP Travel Rewards Mastercard.

There is also a third card that will not be available for applications, the AARP Mastercard from Barclays. This card will be issued to AARP Credit Card from Chase cardholders when they switch over to Barclays starting in September 2021.

AARP Essential Rewards

Welcome Bonus:

  • Earn a $100 intro bonus with $500 spend within first 90 days.
  • 0% introductory APR for 15 months on balance transfers made within 45 days of account opening.
The AARP Essential Rewards Mastercard from Barclays

Card Details:

  • Earn:
    • 3% cash back on gas and drug store purchases
    • 2% cash back on medical expenses
    • 1% cash back rewards on all purchases
  • Easy rewards redemption for cash back, statement credits, gift cards, merchandise, and AARP memberships starting at $16 in rewards
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees
  • No Annual Fee

AARP Travel Rewards

The AARP Travel Rewards Mastercard from Barclays

Card Details:

  • Earn:
    • 3% cash back on airfare, hotel stays and car rentals
    • 2% cash back on restaurant purchases, including food delivery services
    • 1% cash back rewards on all purchases
  • Easy rewards redemption for cash back, statement credits, gift cards, merchandise, and AARP memberships starting at $16 in rewards
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees
  • No Annual Fee

Conclusion

These new Barclays AARP credit cards are already available for applications. They come with no annual fee, $100 signup bonus and an introductory 0% APR for balance transfers.

The only difference between the two cards is the rewards structure. The Essential Rewards card earns 3% cash back on gas and drugstores, and 2% cash back on medical expenses. The Travel Rewards card earns 3% cash back on airfare, hotels and car rentals, and 2% cash back on restaurants and foo delivery services.

If you already have a Chase AARP credit card, it will convert to an AARP Mastercard from Barclays later this year.
