A Lovely Day in Ann Arbor
As this blog has grown larger, it has been a pleasure to meet and speak with other people who are crazy about this stuff. Yes I blog about miles & points full time, but I really do love it. This is more than business to me and when I can get together with others who feel the same way, it is like magic.
I spent the better part of the afternoon being taken on a walking tour of Ann Arbor. Was it beautiful? Actually it was beautiful, although the humid overcast weather made me sweat in the most unattractive way. Flashback to Bangkok? Yup. Ah visuals.
Following a tour of the town including the fantastic annual Art Fair, we stopped at a local ice cream shop where the Chocolate Raspberry flavor was very good. I’m told someone else’s flavor was better, but who am I to judge?
Naturally the day flew by and it was time to meet 11 other crazy miles & points maniacs for some Korean BBQ. I’m not going to lie. I accidentally took a seat in front of the little grill and found myself one of the two designated grillers on our side. It was exhausting. I had to cook my own food and chew it myself. Yawn!
Of course the food was fantastic (because I cooked it) and the conversation was even better. We talked about points and miles and…well you know, we sort of got stuck on that topic for hours. It is sort of all a blur, but I loved it. I even got to sit next to a certain Greek blog critic and he didn’t yell at me. #Winning!
I guess the point of this is that I really love getting out and meeting people. Yes I am speaking at Ann Arbor DO tomorrow and that is the reason I am here, but today didn’t feel like work. I also go to these events and talk to people often just for fun. I tell them about the secret ways to load REDbird with Vanilla Reloads bought at Officemax online, how to get Delta business class awards for economy prices and all sorts of fun. Misinformation is fun right?
Okay, so that is your behind the scenes from today. No name dropping although I hung out with a couple of rockstars. The pictures are recreations of the day since I was talking too much to be bothered to take photos. Tomorrow I get to meet dozens of more crazies. I wonder how that will go? Perhaps I’ll share a few takeaways with some actual useful information?

Drive down to visit Sandusky Ohio. Visit. Cedar Point to ride coasters. Then visit Toft’s on route 6 west of cedar point for a ice cream cone. But only get a kiddie cone…they have almost a pint of ice cream in them. My favorite is bicentennial bash. Which is peanut butter ice cream with caramel, reese’s cups and buckeyes. May have to make a ice cream run tomorrow if I get my house work done.
You serve BBQ just great. You need to work on your grilling techniques though. Just kidding. That was fun last night. Today should be even better. And yes I am typing this from Panera 🙂
SO JEALOUS!
T_T..
Great post Shawn. It was great to hang out with you and Julian yesterday.
@Yeshu: Blank Slate Creamery. Much better than Kilwins
Will try Blank State Creamery next time. Thanks for the suggestion.
please share the secret of loading red card with vanilla reload from Office Depot online ^_^
Well, of course you hung out with Greg and perhaps with TBB (I thought he was from MI as well – I could be wrong).
Did you go to Kilwin’s for ice cream? Try the 4 local Arbor breweries as well they are excellent.
What? “Secret ways to load REDbird with Vanilla Reloads bought at Officemax online, how to get Delta business class awards for economy prices”??? God Damnit. I needed to be grilling Korean BBQ with you bro! Shit! I probably just lost thousands of dollars by not being there!
I hope you have a blast Shawn and keep up the great work! Maybe show up at the DO tomorrow with some Panera coffee for a certain Greek blogger so you stay on his good side
Hello from Panera this morning hehe
