British Airways Is Raising Cost Of Award Flights On Partner Airlines
An email just went out to some British Airways members informing them that award prices are going up on partner awards. They of course do not give details of what those costs will be, at least I could not find that info. Here is what they do tell us:
From 30 May 2019, we’ll be changing our Avios prices on reward flights with the following partner airlines: Alaska Airlines, Air Italy, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Japan Airlines, LATAM, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, S7, Sri Lankan and Royal Jordanian Airlines.
The price of Avios upgrades on American Airlines only will also be changing.
The prices will remain the same for British Airways flights but most of us don’t care about that since their taxes and fees are astronomical. The partner awards were the number one reason to collect British Airways Avios along with their favorable cancellation policy and late booking policy.

Conclusion
This is big news but without more details we have to wait and see how bad it is. It is also unclear if Iberia will be following suit or not but I imagine that will be the case. I would say that since it only costs $11.20 to cancel domestic award flights I would consider doing some speculative bookings if you have something in mind. I think there may be a run on American Airlines award bookings with this news. We will update you more as more info comes out on the new pricing structure.

Hawaii to Japan in economy is 20k at the present. I was hoping to use my avios next year for TYO-HEL.
Hopefully it’s not a significant devaluation. A consolation is they have some decent redemption of avios for hotel stays, so I could always use it for that.
I find it really annoying that they would announce it without giving any details about what the changes are. It is only 30 days away – what are they waiting for?
Ugh! I liked having this as a last resort to get us direct to Hawaii from the West Coast on Alaska. It can be so hard to plan a miles trip not know what devaluations are going to happen. Such is life!
Yup – hopefully it is not too bad when the info comes out. I hope they don’t go dynamic or something crazy like that with it though.
