Capital One Insurance On Turo Rentals
Last week Capital One made some news on a few different fronts. The bigger news was the Capital One Venture card’s welcome offer was bumped up to a juicy 75,000 points after spending $4,000 within the first 3 months. But, there was another change that went a little under the radar too. That was Capital One’s new partnership with Turo. This partnership means increased earning rates on rentals for Venture and Venture X cardmembers. People were excited about the increased earning rates, especially with car rental prices sky high, but wondered if there was Capital One insurance on Turo rentals. Since it isn’t a normal car rental they weren’t sure if it was covered.

Increased Turo Earning Rates For Select Capital One Cardholders
Starting May 17, 2022, Venture X cardholders will earn 10X miles and Venture cardholders will earn 5X miles when booking through the Turo app or on Turo.com (through May 16, 2023).
This first-of-its-kind partnership will automatically enable eligible cardholders to earn enhanced rewards when booking through the world’s leading peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace with their Venture X or Venture card.
Turo allows private car owners to rent out their vehicles via an online and mobile interface in over 56 countries.
Is Turo Covered By Capital One Credit Card Insurance?
The Capital One Venture X card has primary car rental coverage thanks to it being a Visa Infinite card. The Capital One Venture card’s rental coverage acts more like a secondary coverage, unless you have no personal insurance coverage, thanks to it being a Visa Signature card.
That is the set up for regular rental cards, but what is the Capital One insurance on Turo rentals? Are they covered the same?
Unfortunately Turo is not covered per the terms of Visa Infinite’s rental car protections benefits. We double checked with our Capital One contact to ensure there wasn’t something specially set up with Cap One and Turo. I don’t think there is a card issuer out there that covers Turo though, so you aren’t really missing anything there if you pay with your card for higher earning rates.
Turo Rental Insurance: Final Thoughts
If you are looking forward to taking advantage of the 10X earning with your Venture X on your next Turo rental just be aware that there will be no insurance benefits. You should check with your personal car insurance company to see if you are covered that way. If not, it may be best to pay for Turo’s insurance coverage if you don’t want to risk it. Especially if you are renting expensive or exotic vehicle.
That is the bad news, the good news is no credit card offers Turo insurance benefits (at least to my knowledge). So you won’t be missing out there. You can take advantage of that 5X-10X earning rate without any shame on missing out on added benefits. Just be sure to take care of your insurance needs on that Turo rental some other way.

The insurance part is key. We rented a car in October through Turo, and my dad learned that your typical car insurance along with any credit card insurance does not cover Turo cars. So basically if you were to get into an accident, you would be uninsured.
