CardCash Chase Ink 5X Dead
The Chase Ink Plus and Chase Ink Cash cards are very popular and lucrative because they earn 5X Ultimate Rewards points on purchases at office supply stores and on cellular phone, landline, internet
and cable TV services each account anniversary year. Sometimes merchants that you normally wouldn’t expect to code as 5X do.
One of those merchants has been gift card reseller CardCash. This meant that you could buy discounted gift cards for a variety of merchants and earn 5X at the same time as well. It really was a sweet deal and apparently it is now dead.
Multiple Data Points
One of the members of the Miles to Memories Facebook group noticed that purchases after 6/14 aren’t earning 5X. Here is a screenshot that was posted in the group for a 6/14 purchase.
And here is what purchases after 6/14 look like:
While I didn’t have any purchases on 6/14 or right before, I did make a purchase from CardCash on 6/16. After seeing this I logged into my account to find:
Unfortunately the news is bad. It does appear that my purchase on June 16 also coded as only 1X. Just to make sure, I also asked PDX Deals Guy to take a look at his account and the news was the same:
Conclusion
It appears that beginning on June 15, 2016 CardCash stopped coding as 5X with the Chase Ink cards. Maybe this is just a fluke, but they most likely changed the way they are categorized with Visa. This is the end of a very lucrative opportunity and a sad day indeed. Hmmmmm, somehow I never heard of this cardcash deal before. (never mentioned before here, no?) So what other “sweet” venues for Chase Ink purchasing have I been missing? Any favs out there?
(and yes, I have oft’ used staples for gc purchases w/ Ink– and even ebay/paypal — that is, when desperate for self-flagellation, massive headaches, and oh so “consistent” madness)
Open to learning about alternative venues.
So can anyone confirm with the visa coding search that it is setup differently now? With Gyft being 5x but limiting GC to low denominations this is really becoming unrealistic to maintain.
Sad to see it gone, just checked mine, transaction on 6/15 still earned bonus, 6/17 did not.
Is this just with the Visa or Master cards too? 2 weeks ago, I have received my renewed Ink plus Mastercard.
A long while back, I heard something that the Mastercards are going away. I was just surprised to see my master card and my authorized users master cards all arrived in the same mail.
I made a purchase today at abcgiftcards. Will keep you posted on how it posts.
