27 People Sailing to Belize Aboard Carnival Vista Test Positive for Covid-19
The Carnival Vista cruise ship in the Caribbean has reported 27 people tested positive for COVID-19, 26 of whom are crew members and the other a passenger. The infected individuals are all fully vaccinated.
The Belize Tourism Board reported the issue on Wednesday, the same day that the ship pulled into port at Belize City. Per normal protocol, ahead of Vista’s arrival, ship officials reported to port authorities that it carried 27 positive cases on board.
Carnival Vista had 2895 guests and 1441 crew on board. The team at Carnival noted that all positive cases have been isolated and contact tracing has ended with no additional positive cases found, and that the infected crew and passenger do not pose a threat to guests, crew or frontline workers in Belize.
The crew was 99.98% vaccinated, while passengers were 96.5% vaccinated. All persons who have tested positive are vaccinated, most are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms. Over 900 tests were done aboard after contact tracing, and no further positive cases have been found.
The Belize Tourism Board said that after a thorough review of the situation, and after determining that the risk is low, including the fact that CDC is aware of the situation, it was concluded that the situation is contained, and safety protocols are proving effective.

I’m boarding the Vista in a few hours here in Galveston and I’m not worried. It has been a pain as they increased testing and standards for this next cruise. I’ve heard this morning that it may go out 100% vaccinated, without kids, etc. but that is rumor. We tested yesterday and I expect that they will add another test prior to boarding. I expect port calls may be changed but I need a vacation. So far the biggest issue has been the flights getting screwed up. We had to give up and drive 13 hours instead.
Now who saw that coming…
It’s actually pretty funny considering that cruise lines want to push vaccine mandates. So even with all those crew vaccinated, how is all that working out?
That’s no tragedy!
How many people do you lose on a normal cruise? 30? 40??
Why is this news? What kind of garbage reporting is this?
Thousands of people are on cruise ships… there will be hundreds of cases of COVID and or the flu… who cares.. unless the people aren’t vaccinated (by choice) they will be sick for a couple days and get over it. This is not news at all. Everyone needs to stop reporting stupid stuff like this. Hurting our economy and peoples confidence in travel the ways these articles are written….pathetic.
….and nobody got sick. So then WHO CARES!!!! Enjoy your cruise. Enough with this foolishness.
Chinese vax? It was almost entirely crew that was infected despite being “fully vaccinated.”
Just a guess but, Caribbean crews often have many South American staff and the Chinese vaccines were the main ones being administered in South America.
