Centurion Lounge at San Francisco Airport to Close on Sep 6

If you’re traveling through the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in the next few months, you will not be able to relax in the Centurion Lounge there.

The Centurion Lounge at San Francisco International Airport will be temporarily closed for construction, beginning September 6. American Express needs to shutter the lounge as it works to expand it.

Located in Terminal 3, the Centurion Lounge at SFO will nearly double in size, increasing its footprint to almost 16,000 square feet. It will also introduce a new seasonal menu from Liholiho Yacht Club Executive Chef Ravi Kapur, offering clean, vibrant, and restorative dishes celebrating local purveyors from the Bay Area.

During the closure, grab-and-go pre-packaged food and non-alcoholic beverage options will be provided for eligible Card Members to enjoy, beginning September 12 from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, as detailed in the lounge page. The lounge is expected to re-open by the end of the year.

American Express has been working to add more lounges recently and is also expanding current locations to accommodate more travelers. Overcrowding has been a big issue at several Centurion Lounges, especially now with surging travel demand.

The best way to access these lounges is with am American Express Platinum card, which also lets you bring up to two guests for no additional fee. However, starting in February 1, 2023, Platinum cardmembers will be charged $50 per adult guest and $30 for children. The only way to get free access for guests is to spend $75,000 annually.
