Chase Freedom Bonus Categories Quarter 4 2021

Chase Freedom Bonus Categories Quarter 4 2021

Chase Freedom Flex is one of the more popular rewards credit cards. With no annual fee, 5X rotating bonus categories, 3X on dining and drugstores and points that convert to Ultimate Rewards when paired with a premium card, it is a product worth considering.

While some of their competitors like to release bonus categories well ahead of time, Chase only releases the categories a few weeks before the start of the quarter. Today we have learned which categories will earn 5% back on the Chase Freedom & Freedom Flex cards in the fourth quarter of 2021 on up to $1,500 in spend. Let’s take a look!

Chase Freedom October – December, 2021 Bonus Categories

Here are the just announced bonus categories for Chase Freedom Flex and the discontinued Chase Freedom card. Starting October 1 through December 31, cardmembers can earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases on the following:

  • PayPal: Cardmembers will automatically earn 5% cashback on eligible purchases made when checking out with PayPal at tens of millions of online businesses.
  • Walmart: Cardmembers will automatically earn 5% cashback when shopping for gifts, groceries and more when shopping at Walmart or on Walmart.com. Purchases made using PayPal at Walmart will only earn a total of 5% cashback.

These are two great categories, especially PayPal. You will basically earn 5x on every purchase as long as you check out with PayPal and use your eligible Chase Freedom card. Walmart is also a popular store and you can earn 5x both online and in-store.

You can activate the bonus categories on this page.

Chase Freedom Flex review

If you don’t currently have the Chase Freedom Flex card (and aren’t over 5/24), it can be a great first card to get with Chase and it has a decent bonus right now.

  • The Offer: Earn a $200 bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. Pay no annual fee and receive a 0% intro APR for 15 months from account opening on purchases.

Conclusion

With the ability to earn 5% back at Walmart or when you pay with Paypal, there is plenty of opportunity to max out the $1,500 in spend in the fourth quarter of 2021. Another good quarter for those who have the Chase Freedom or Freedom Flex cards!

What do you plan to do to max out your $1,500 in Chase Freedom Flex 5X spend?

  1. Thanks for this post.

Now I know I can max-out Q4 on my two old Freedoms via PayUSA tax, (pity the IRS has a velocity limit for 1040ES), so I’ll just reserve my flex for grocery or whatever @ Wal-Mart.

  2. Imagine the Freedom Flex card and the new Citi Custom Cash card together . . . in two-player mode. If maxed out, a couple could push $24k through at 5X for 120k points per year. Nice.
