The Chase Freedom card is among my favorites because it earns valuable Ultimate Rewards points while also giving me the ability to earn 5X in rotating bonus categories each quarter. Over the years we have amassed a few Freedom cards which makes me happy looking at the newly announced 3rd quarter bonus categories.
Announcement – Chase Freedom Q3 2020 Bonus Categories
While this isn’t yet reflected on their public Chase Freedom calendar page, Chase has updated the calendar for Freedom customers who login to reveal the Q3 bonus categories for 2020. And they are pretty good! Let’s take a look.
I should have probably said they are pretty good for people who like Amazon!
How I’ll Max Out the Q3 Freedom Bonus Categories
This one is pretty simple in my eyes. I spend a lot of money on Amazon for reselling and otherwise, so I’ll probably just lock in my 5X by purchasing Amazon gift cards directly from Amazon and loading them to my account for later. This could also be a great way to shift spend into the 4th quarter if you don’t have a lot of Amazon purchases now, but expect to spend a lot for the holidays. Of course if you shop Whole Foods often then this is a nice bonus, but tons of cards are also paying bonus points at grocery stores too.
Chase Freedom Q3 2020 Bonus Categories – Bottom Line
This has been one of the better years for bonus categories on the Chase Freedom cards. Every quarter has provided opportunity and the 3rd quarter is no different. Make sure to max out the 2nd quarter before the end of the month and then move on to Amazon in July!
Happy 5Xing!

Woohoo! This is a great one!
Disappointing quarter for Chase Freedom… I can get 5x or more on Amazon purchase already using other methods (ink/staples, other grocery bonuses + fuel points promotion or 10% amex offers on Lowes or Staples). Heck I am even sitting on 5x MR bonus points on couple of amex cards… one on Business plus so I can earn 7 MR points per dollar up to $1500.
I am hoping Chase will bring back the paypal for the 4th quarter like last year. I was able to earn 5x on many things I could only only earn 1-2x otherwise.
But pretty disappointing for people who already get 5% back on all Amazon purchases through the Chase Amazon Prime card. Yes, I suppose UR points are a little more valuable if you use them for travel, but barely enough better to be worth the extra trouble.
Haven’t been doing much Amazon shopping so these cats not my cup of tea…
This post doesn’t really help if you don’t have a reselling business. Would be nice to have some other suggestions that other can use.
You can buy food on Amazon or at Whole Foods. Amazon also sells gift cards to 3rd party places that you may be able to use as well.
Will definitely entertain this once I finish using my Prestige on Amazon.
