Chase Ink Business Reconsideration Call

Today was my big day, I finally applied for a Chase 5/24 restricted card. I’ve restricted myself to new business cards only for the last two years so that I could add a few more Chase cards to my portfolio. I submitted my application and got the dreaded denial message. I was surprised because I have excellent credit, am at 4/24 and all my Chase cards are in rotation.

Application Approval Issue

The agent assisting me said my app was denied because I was at 5/24 but I pointed out that one of the accounts was only an authorized user account and it was supposed to be removed from my report. At that point she let me know she could further review the denial and submit additional information in the hopes of getting it approved.

Call Details

The reconsideration rep was very nice and helpful but she really grilled me on every single detail of my business. She was also asking for clarification on several points like what I need the card for, how my business operates etc. She asked specific numbers for operating costs, profit, revenue as well as spending projections. The call lasted almost an hour.

After answering all of her questions with as much detail as possible, she let me know she would be submitting it for further review. She said the turnaround time was approximately 5 business days. Now we wait.

Conclusion

So, did I get my card? A few days after my call I logged into my Chase Business Account and there it was, the new Ink Preferred Account. I’m really happy this worked out but there are some mistakes I made that we can all learn from. First, check both of your reports to make sure everything is the same before applying. Apparently one of them showed the AU account but the other reflected the removal. Also, before you call recon it’s helpful to do a little research to find out what types of info they may ask you.

  1. Clickbait. The story doesn’t answer the question posed in the headline, and that’s both annoying and devaluing to the webpage brand.

  2. I highly recommend applying for Chase Business cards at the branch with the Business Relationship Manager. I brought my business documents, including tax returns proving my income and also my incorporation documents. The approval went smoothly because the BRM was vouching for me.

  3. I don’t think that is anything new. I was asked all of those questions by Chase a few years ago for a business card application. It might depend on who you get on the phone. Since then I’ve had Chase business approvals with and without the interrogation about the business. I think part of the reason for the interrogation might be to see if there are any other business products they can market to you.

  4. I think they are tightening things up. I got myself down to 0/24 (!). I have a Chase Ink & 3 personal Chase cards, all used regularly and paid off monthly. I have a Chase business checking with regular deposits from Amazon (reselling), and both Chase personal checking & savings. My credit scores are all 3 in the low 800’s. I applied for the SWA Business card & was turned down. Did not bother to make recon call – my reselling business is only a year old & I don’t have a good enough handle on the numbers yet to be grilled over the phone about. All I can think of is that I moved my residence 2 doors down recently (altho my business address with Chase hasn’t changed in over 2 years). Ugh.

  5. But I was just approved. I got the “we need time to review” or whatever, and card showed up in about 7 days with no other contact. First chase business card, at 4/24, with 2 amex business cards in last 6 months for my “small sole proprietorship”

  6. Two comments. I blame the bloggers. They tell people to call in and pretend they have a business. Chase knows what’s up.

Secondly I think chase uses it as fishing expedition to figure out what’s happening with the economy. I don’t think a lot of the questions have anything to do with credit analysis.

  7. I don’t see how your article addresses the question of “Is Chase Tightening Up Business Card Approvals?” What are you comparing it against? Have you applied previously, and not been asked questions about the business?

Otherwise, it just sounds like a regular CC application with a previously well documented 5/24 hiccup.

    • I can see your point, I should’ve made it more clear that the perceived tightening had to do With the extensive questions about my business but I have never received before when calling recon

  8. I just got under 5/24 and applied for this card as well. It said I’d hear in xx days so I called reconsideration. She put me on hold for 20 minutes, coming back every 3 or 4 to say she was working on it, and said I was approved. She didn’t ask me a single question about my “business” (wink wink). They were able to rush ship it and had it 2 days later.

I had burned through 400k UR points a couple years ago and then closed out all my Chase cards. It will be nice to build that balance back up!

    • Congrats, I’m surprised they didn’t ask about biz. They asked so many questions I got flustered lol.
