BA Launches Low-Cost Airline ‘Level’
International Airlines Group, the company that owns British Airways, is launching Level, a new “low cost longhaul airline brand” to initially operate out of Barcelona, Spain.
Level, would initially fly to Los Angeles, Oakland, Buenos Aires and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic from June. The airline will use Iberia crew and two new Airbus A330 planes.
Fly To Europe For As Little As $211 Round-Trip
One-way flights range in price from 99 to 149 euros (about $105 – $160). You can already book at Iberia.com or FlyLevel.com. Here’s an example for a round-trip direct flights from Los Angeles to Barcelona.
That’s only $211.03, and incredible summer fare. You can use a flexible calendar to find the cheapest prices. You can also book one way fares for the same prices.
While flights are operated by Iberia, you’ll encounter all the fees you’d expect with a low-cost carrier such as seat assignments, bags, meals etc..
More To Come
Level will soon be looking to offer flights to and from other destinations in Europe. “This is just the start,” said Willie Walsh, IAG chief executive (per BBC). “We’re really excited about the opportunities for expansion and we plan to bring Level to other European destinations.”
The move comes after Lufthansa’s decision to offer flights to destinations in the Caribbean and Asia on Eurowings, its low-cost offshoot. It’s also an attempt to counter the challenge of low-cost newcomers such as Norwegian Airlines who have been offering incredible prices between US and Europe.
