Choice Privileges Your Extras
I’m a big fan of Choice Hotels and their Privileges loyalty program, and I recently described why to pay more attention to both. With the Choice quirks, I’ve found solid value and enjoyed some remarkable properties along the way. Whether it’s a routine or aspirational booking, members can find value with Choice Privileges Your Extras on weekday stays. Today, I’ll describe what’s to love about this benefit.
What Is Choice Privileges Your Extras?
When Choice Privileges members book weeknight stays, including any Sunday through Thursday night, they are eligible for Your Extras program benefits. Members can pick from one of the following:
- 400 Choice Privileges Points
- 100 Airline Miles from any one of the participating programs:
- AeroMexico Club Premier
- Air Canada Aeroplan
- Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan
- Free Spirit Rewards
- Qantas Frequent Flyer
- United Airlines Mileage Plus
- Velocity Frequent Flyer Program
- $2.50 Amazon Credit
- $3 Uber Discount
- $5 Starbucks Card
The Fine Print
This benefit is only available on point-eligible weekday stays (Sunday-Thursday) at participating properties. Therefore, it appears reward stays are not eligible for Your Extras benefits. Choice also advises that certain options, like Amazon, Uber, and Starbucks aren’t always available. Woodspring Suites and some MainStay Suites and Ascend Collection properties aren’t currently participating.
There’s a one reward per stay limit. A stay is considered any number of consecutive nights at the same property, regardless of separate reservations. A member can set their preferred option online, and that choice must be set before check-in. The member receives that benefit until the next subsequent update before check-in. Head over to the Choice Hotels site to view the full terms and conditions.
My Take
Choice provides all Privileges members a small but nice benefit with the Your Extras program. No elite status is required to obtain this benefit. Even better, it stacks with earning points on paid stays. Depending on a members’ needs, they can easily obtain a variety of benefits from Choice Privileges Your Extras. The online tool is simple for updating the preferred option.
Again, one’s preferences vary. Personally, I’d go for the $5 Starbucks card, as I can redeem that for a strong coffee or breakfast item to replace the lackluster breakfast options at many Choice properties. A close second is the Uber discount, as I could readily use that, as well. I have close to zero interest in the rest of the options. I’m not looking for a reason to shop on Amazon. My points and miles balances are healthy enough where I have no urgent need for those options. Again, my focus here is to pick up the most definite, immediate benefit. Coffee or part of a ride/meal fits that bill. Many avid Choice fans may just want to “set and forget” their benefit to points, though.
Conclusion
I applaud simple, useful perks like Choice Privileges Your Extras which are easily available to all. There are strings attached, but they’re nothing overly onerous. In my view, this is the points and miles version of finding money between the couch cushions. It’s something I didn’t even know was there but will happily accept. Unfortunately, I’m sitting on a pile of Choice points and have no need to pay cash rates for the foreseeable future. But many budget travelers, whether on business or personal trips, easily win here. Have you taken advantage of the Choice Privileges Your Extras program? What’s your favorite option?
