Citi AAdvantage Gold Mastercard

Citi AAdvantage Gold Mastercard Offer With No 24 Month Language

For some reason my wife has been getting targeted offers on the regular from Citi.  They have all been for the Citi AAdvantage Gold Mastercard but I have usually thrown them away.  The offers have not been all that enticing with large $6,000 minimum spend terms for 50,000 miles.  This latest one was much improved though. The offer is without Citi’s 24 month language as well.

Offer Details

The American Airlines Gold MasterCard doesn’t currently have a public sign up bonus.  In the past I believe the public offer was in the 25-30,000 mile range.  The targeted offer my wife received is quite a bit better than that:

  • 50,000 AAdvantage miles after spending $2,500 within the first 3 months
  • An additional 10,000 miles after spending a total of $5,000 within the first 12 months
  • The $50 annual fee is waived the first year
  • 0% APR for the first 14 months

This is a pretty compelling offer that is better than the current public offer for the AAdvantage Platinum Select card.  That offer is for 50,000 miles after $2,500 in spend.  Well, unless you ask them to match the increased offer like I did.

I could pair this up with the increased 60,000 mile offer that the Barclay business card has. I only need to buy a pack of gum for that one and I could be sitting on a quick 120,000 American Airlines miles.

Conclusion

This is a pretty great offer but I am torn on whether or not she should take it.  Her 24 month clock is almost up and the Platinum Select offer requires less spend for a similar haul. That is if I am able to get Citi to match it again. The Platinum Select card also comes with better perks. I am still in the middle of my World of Hyatt free night spend and I am not sure that I want to add more to the pile.

Is one in the hand worth two in the bush?  Let me know your thoughts on the offer and if I should take it or wait for the Platinum version.

    • If there is no once per lifetime language then this has been possible in the past. But as always YMMV

  1. We get these almost everyday. 1 for me and 1 each for my two daughters. We all have mile accounts but no AA card. My wife has the AA Advantage card and does not receive the offers. But the language part I’m not sure. The fine print says “If you are an existing Citi/AAdvantage cardmember, you are not eligible for this offer on your existing account.”
But I’m 6 months from going under 5/24 so I don’t want to succumb to the temptation!

    • I don’t believe so. They send out mailers with specific codes on them. I have no idea how they decide who to send them to either.
