Citi Rewards+ Signup Bonus Doesn’t Have 24-Month Language
Citi has strict rules when it comes to signup bonuses for its credit cards. You are eligible for a new bonus only once every 24 or 48 months per credit card family. For example you can only get one ThankYou points bonus every 24 months, or one American Airlines AAdvantage miles bonus every 48 months.
If we take a look at the terms for the Citi Premier card for example, we’ll see this limit noted in fine print:
Bonus ThankYou® Points are not available if you received a new cardmember bonus for Citi Rewards+®, Citi ThankYou® Preferred, Citi ThankYou® Premier/Citi Premier® or Citi Prestige®, or if you have closed any of these accounts, in the past 24 months.
However, Doctor of Credit reports that this language has now been removed from the welcome bonus for the Citi Rewards+ credit card. It’s not clear if the removal of the 24-month language is intentional, or this is just Citi being Citi.
This card currently has a small bonus of just 20,000 ThankYou points. But you can also earn 5 ThankYou® points per $1 spent at restaurants up to $6000 for the first 12 month, and there’s no annual fee. You also get 10% back when you redeem your points for the first 100,000 points every year.
Conclusion
With no such language in the terms, you should be able to apply and get the 20,000 points bonus even if you have received a ThankYou points bonus within the last 24 months.
But I would suggest that you take screenshots of the offer while applying. It’s a good idea to have some kind of have proof of the offer if the bonus doesn’t post automatically.
It’s also worth noting that the Citi Rewards+ card is still listed in the ThankYou family under the 24-month terms of the Citi Premier card. So if you are eligible for that 80,000 points Citi Premier bonus, you should apply for that card first.
