New Round of Citi ThankYou Spending Offers Sent Out
Citibank is no stranger to sending out spending offers on their cards, especially for sock drawer cards. They even decide to send out some of the worst authorized user offers known to man kind from time to time too. Today my wife received an email with a pretty decent spending offer on her ThankYou Preferred card. The offer is not as good as the ones Citi was sending out at the end of last year but it is something.
Details on the Offer
The details for the ThankYou Preferred spending offer are as follows:
- Earn 5 ThankYou points per dollar in the following categories
- Airlines
- Hotels
- Car Rentals
- Cruise Lines
- She can earn up to 2,500 points
- She must register by 8/31/18
- The offer lasts until 9/30/18
Depending on what other cards you have this may be a beneficial offer to you. American Express Platinum card’s 5X earning on airlines is better for most people.
If you have a ThankYou card like the Premier or Prestige to pair with your Preferred card this is essentially a 6.25% return on the first $500 in spend for any of the above categories. I probably won’t use it much since I will be working on my new World of Hyatt card credit card minimum spend!
Usually when Citi sends out these offers for one card they send them out for others as well. Let me know if you received anything in the comments and I will make a list of all available offers here.
Conclusion
This is a pretty decent spending offer although it is limited in the amount of points you can rack up. It is good to see them trying to entice current cardmembers. Especially for a no annual fee credit card.
Do you think this is a good offer? How would you utilize it? Let me know in the comments as well as let me know if you got a spending offer on any other Citi cards.

I received this offer on my Legacy AT&T Universal Mastercard.
• Dining
• Shopping
• Groceries
• Travel and more!
I always read these offers as getting an additional 2500 points so since I already receive 1 point, that means the bonus spend is on $625. I’ve been able to transfer these points to my Citi Premier and use them for 1.25 cents to book airfare. I’ll take 5x back on a free card (which I’ve had forever). I also can’t tell what the “and more” is referring to.
That is a great offer!
JoeHeg’s comment that “the bonus spend is on $625” had me puzzled so I went back to reread my offer on my Thank You Preferred card. My offer clearly states “Use your card to earn 5 ThankYou Points per $1 spent, up to 2,500 points, through 09/30/2018 on bills¹ you pay”. This to me means spend $500 on the categores and get 2500 points (therefore, 500 regular points and 2000 bonus points). However, the smal print footnote says in part, “Earnings associated with this program will equal 4 bonus ThankYou® Point(s) per $1 spent on eligible purchases and may overlap with other special offers in which you are currently enrolled. Bonus points awarded with this offer are subject to a maximum of 2,500 additional points.” Therefore, spending $625 on the categories earns 2500 bonus points plus the normal 625 points (3125 in total). Good deal! Thanks JoeHog.
Citi has worded their bonus offers that way for years. I was confused as well but I can confirm that on past offers I have received 2500 extra points on top of the 625 points I’d usually receive.
I wonder if they word it that way on purpose hoping people stop after $500?
Just got confirmation from Citi that the “And More” will cover 5x on almost all spending.
Our records show you were enrolled in the offer on 06/26/2018 to receive 5 ThankYou points per $1 spent excluding AT&T purchases up to a cap of 2,500 points until 09/30/2018.
This is now my card for my non-bonused spend.
Wow – Nice!
Mark, I am confused. Was the offer on the Preferred or the Premier?
Thank you as always.
Preferred – I will change that. I wish banks would stop naming everything similar names lol
Know what you mean… Especially when you are trying to tell your wife on the phone which card to use… 🙂
I received the same offer terms but for the following categories:
• Cell & Landline Providers
• Cable & Satellite Providers
• Internet Providers
• Insurance Providers
Insurance providers is a great one that no one really covers…excellent!
Yours are good.
