Claim Your Share of Facebook’s $725M Settlement

If you have a Facebook account, or had one at any time since May 24, 2007, you can now apply for a share of a $725 million privacy settlement that parent company Meta has agreed to pay.

Meta is paying to settle a lawsuit alleging the world’s largest social media platform allowed millions of its users’ personal information to be shared with third party app developers. It’s not clear how much money individual users will receive. The larger the number of people submitting valid claims, the smaller each payment will be.

First, administrative costs and attorney fees will be paid. Then the resulting Net Settlement Fund will be allocated to Settlement Class Members who submit valid claims. The Settlement Administrator will assign each Authorized Claimant one point for each month in which the Authorized Claimant had an activated Facebook account during the Class Period.

After the deadline, the Settlement Administrator will add up all the points assigned to all the Authorized Claimants and divide the Net Settlement Amount by that number. The result will be the amount of the Net Settlement Fund available for each point. Each member will receive then that per-point amount multiplied by the number of points they were assigned.

To apply for the settlement, eligible class members can fill out a form and submit it online, or print it out and mail it in. You need to provide your email, username, or phone number in order to prove that you have a Facebook account between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022.

  1. Thanks! I just submitted my claim. Probably won’t be enough recovery to buy a cup of coffee, but I suppose it’s the principle.
