Citi Wants to Convert Some Dividend Card to Custom Cash
The Citi Dividend card is no longer available for new customers, but remains a good product that many people have in their wallets. This card earns 5% back in rotating bonus categories.
Each quarter you can earn 5% cash back with the Citi Dividend card. But unlike the Discover it or Freedom Flex were cash back is capped to $75 per quarter, the Citi Dividend has a a limit of $300 per year. That means that you can do all the spending even in one quarter, if there’s a category that you really like.
Recently Citi launched a new credit card with 5% categories, the Custom Cash. This card earns 5% cash back on purchases in your top eligible spend category each billing cycle, up to the first $500. Eligible categories include restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, select travel, drugstores, home improvement stores, and more.
Now Citi is looking to transfer some Citi Dividend cardholders to Custom Cash. They are sending out mailers saying that Citi Dividend cards will be automatically converted. It’s possible that only those who never had, or have the Citi Custom Cash card, are receiving these mailers.
However, even if you have received one of these mailers, you should know that this change is not mandatory. You can can opt out, but there’s not much time to do so. If you do NOT want the Citi Custom Cash Card, then you should contact Citi no later than September 9, 2022, at 1-888-872-2214. If you fail to do so, your Citi Dividend card will be automatically converted to Custom Cash on September 19, 2022. See the mailer here.
