European Union Announces Plans for Covid-19 Vaccine Passport
The Covid-19 vaccine has been rolled out all over the world in recent months, with several companies offering their own version. With more people getting vaccinated there’s hope that travel could slowly get back to normal, maybe as soon as this summer.
The European Union is looking to boost tourism by introducing a ‘vaccine passport’ that will give travel access to people who have been vaccinated. The EU has announced it will outline its proposal for a digital vaccine passport this month, in time for the summer tourism season.
These vaccine passports will provide evidence that a traveler has received full vaccination against COVID-19. So people who have the passport will get unrestricted access to flights, hotels, restaurants, bars, tourist attractions and other events. It also means that they can travel and avoid quarantine protocols, like being locked in a hotel room for 10 or 14 days.
The European Commission is expected to publish a draft of the legislation by March 17. The proposal will set out the details for a common format that can be accepted across the E.U. and lay the groundwork for the technology’s future interoperability. The European Commission also said it would be ready to work with the World Health Organization to potentially extend the system to other countries as well, EuroNews reports.
The vaccine passport has also sparked some controversy. controversy. Opponents say that it will create separate categories of people in society, the vaccinated and the non-vaccinated. This could be unfair to countries where there little or no access to Cocid-19 vaccines. Some developing countries might not get vaccines until 2023 or even later.

So then that clinches it, one less reason to visit Europe
I got my vaccine from a CVS and all they handed me was a CDC vaccination card with handwritten-filled details of the vaccination dates and type. No ID number. Nothing even close to this being connected to any kind of electronic database.
How would I get one of these “passports” with such dodgy vaccine documentation?
That IS your proof. It’s what everyone gets. Note that it states the date(s) of vaccination, the brand and the batch number.
It might be proof but it doesn’t mean that foreign countries will accept it. I mean I hope they do but I have my doubts.
But this is going to be a “digital vaccine passport.” How is just an analogue handwritten card that could easily be plagiarized, photoshopped and filled out by anyone be applicable to a “digital” platform. There’s no scancode, barcode or anything “digital” about it.
Kind of feels like it’ll be too late by the time this rolls out. Think about it. Most if not all who wants to have the vaccine will probably be able to obtain it in the next 3 months (at least in US). And for those on the European soil, I guess it’ll matter until herd immunity set it. So it’s just an expensive 6 month program for those who can’t wait to travel because by 2022, why would it matter if someone who is not vaccinated who wants to travel. We don’t check if people have their measle shots or polio shots….
Measles and polio weren’t politicized like COVID. They came at a different time in our history. Vaccine passports will pass and you will need to have been vaccinated in order to board an international flight. Masks on planes are forever regardless too. There is no way back. Sad state of affairs but there you have it.
What about kids?

I have the same question. I’m vaccinated, have a longtime trip planned with my grandson age 9, who can’t get vaccinated in the near future until testing is completed. How are places handling that?
What about kids who grow into adults? At what age will they require proof of vaccination?
What are the long-term effects of this gene therapy? Why do people equate the asking of questions to domestic terrorism?
