Delta Gold & Platinum Cards Have New Bonus Restrictions
Delta Air Lines revealed some major changes last week that were not very popular with loyal customers. Then they launched new welcome bonuses on business credit cards, but quietly changed the fine print on welcome bonuses for consumer cards.
Delta Gold and Delta Platinum cards now have new restrictions which will limit many previous Delta cardholders from earning another bonus.
Here are the terms that you will now find on the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card:
You may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer if you have or have had this Card the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card, the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card or previous versions of these Cards. You also may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer based on various factors, such as your history with credit card balance transfers, your history as an American Express Card Member, the number of credit cards that you have opened and closed and other factors. If you are not eligible for a welcome offer, we will notify you prior to processing your application so you have the option to withdraw your application.
Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card has the following terms for welcome bonuses:
You may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer if you have or have had this Card the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card or previous versions of these Cards.
There are no changes for the the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card or business credit cards, at least for now.
That means that you will not be able to get the bonus on the Delta Gold Card if you previously (in the last 5-7 years) held or currently have the Delta Platinum or Delta Reserve cards. Similarly, you will not be able to get the bonus on the Delta Platinum Card, if you previously held or currently have the Delta Reserve card.
This pushes new customers to apply for the Delta Gold card first and then work up from there with the Delta Platinum and then Delta Reserve.
