Delta Vacations Double SkyMiles Promo Extended

Today is the last day to book this amazing deal.  We discussed why we love this promo so much on Episode 4 of the Podcast.  Joe even chimed in why he wasn’t using it even though he can see why people should.

Yesterday on Episode 3 of the Miles to Memories Podcast I spoke about how I have been loving the Delta Vacations promo that is giving SkyMiles a $.02 value when booking vacations. In the past couple of days I have booked trips to Walt Disney World and to Hawaii at properties where I can never get a discount on points. I am excited.

So imagine how much more excited I was tonight when my wife informed me that the agent on the phone (we had to adjust one of our trips) said this promotion has been extended through September 6. She also confirmed with a second agent. I thought this promo was too good to be true, but it seems that Delta wants us to redeem those SkyMiles.

Have any of you been told the same thing by Delta Vacations agents?

More To Ponder

I may have some more strategies to come later, but for now I’ll leave you with a couple of quick thoughts:

  • I am happy to transfer over Membership Rewards to Delta if I can get $.02 per point value. Even with the stupid excise fee.
  • Always make sure the Delta Vacations price is at least what you would pay separately for the flight and hotel.
  • Check out our original post for more details on the sale.
  • Listen to the podcast to hear about my awesome Hawaii score with this deal.

Bottom Line

Please chime in and share your experience with this amazing Delta Vacations sale. Have you been told about this one week extension as well? What amazing trips have you booked with SkyMiles this week? Please share your story below!

  1. @ Shawn – see if the dates of your Aulani booking line up w/their new spring promo (up to 30% off plus $250 resort credit). For my booking, I have the option of keeping the same room and getting refunded a $700 Delta Vacations voucher or upgrading to a 1 bedroom villa and paying an additional $300 (or 25k skymiles). Either choice for me now also includes a $250 resort credit.

Btw, follow-up to my insurance comment is that I spoke to a claims processor and described the Delta Vacations receipt/invoice and she confirmed that this would be treated as a cash booking. Can’t confirm accuracy of this stipulation unless I actually need to file a claim, but I proceeded and purchased a policy accordingly.

  2. Has anyone attempted to purchase a travel insurance policy for one of these packages? Lots of conflicting responses to my inquiries. Customer service reps of a few insurers interpret this as a non-insurable trip while Delta Vacations rep stated this should be treated like a cash booking (as evidenced by the lack of any mention of points redemption on the travel docs).

  3. Took advantage of the extended Delta Vacations deal. My wife has wanted to go to visit the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in CLE so I booked a long weekend trip for end of May 2020.

At first I was looking at flights on DL, UA, AA using points and planned to use 3 Chase free night certs at the Kimpton. Best deal I could find was around 53K SkyMiles and $22.40 for the airfare. AA had no saver space that I could find over a long weekend and UA was horrible routing and also higher points.

Finally picked my dates and checked on DL the air only would have been 65K SkyMiles plus $22.40 for the same flights I wanted. I booked a DL Vacation package worth $1298 (air and 3 nights at Kimpton). Redeemed 60K SkyMiles and paid $98 cash. So 5K less SkyMiles and about $75 more out of pocket but still have my 3 Chase free night certs for use elsewhere. Got 2cents per SkyMile (Win) and will earn SkyMiles on the flights since it’s considered a paid ticket.

  4. Success!! I wanted to report I booked a delta vaction with 2 x points, but I charged $54.58 to my plat card which showed up as “Delta Vacations 877-628-2284 ND” 4 days later I received a $54.58 credit posted as “AMEX airline fee rembursiment”. I wish i would have charged more as I still have another $100 AMEX credit to use up.

  5. Its working now, 2 for 1 point! I called 800-800-1504 and they even offered me an extra $50 off for on 3+ night stay as a Platinum member.

  6. This promo is for sure not working through the website, did you talk to the Delta Vacations department? I called today but everyone I talked to through the Delta Plat line have no clue about the promotion.

  7. Was booking a trip from Knoxville to Las Vegas and the flight / hotel combo was about 25% higher than booking separately.

  8. I booked an awesome all inclusive at the new Hard Rock Cancun. Like you said a place I would never go with my points stashes.

    • Again, I shared what my wife had been told and what others have shared on Twitter and elsewhere. I also asked for the data points of others. I invite you to call and share with us what they said as my wife has done.

    • At this point several people have been told this verbally on recorded calls including my wife. I have not seen it on their website yet. Share your data point though. Give ’em a call! 🙂
