The iTunes offer is interesting since it can also be combined with 5X UR points. That can either get you a great discount for personal use, or net you some cheap/free Chase Ultimate Rewards, depending on your reselling relationship. There’s a limit of 4, so you can get up to 1,700 UR.

  1. Sorry ahead of time, but this article, especially the lead, stirred up a rant.

The headline, and (literally) thousands of others like it across the blogosphere for months or even years, is the reason the 5x finally disappeared, in my opinion. 5X…over and over and over….seen almost every day here or on another blog, or even everywhere at the same time.

Also, the inclusive, “Let’s get everyone in on our hobby” mentality, grow these groups as big as we can as fast as we can (And, of course, SELL CREDIT CARD SIGNUPS!) plus the big surge in publicity as to how travel hacking and points gaining is done, is what is burning the hobby to the ground. Deals and angles get known everywhere overnight and the companies READ all this stuff, do not think otherwise. Deals have been seen to die in hours!

If you find a deal, share only with folks you know, or trust, that will not blat about it everywhere. Or, as Vinh often does at Miles Per Day, share DEAD deals to get folks to think and experiment on their own. Those that have enough initiative will find new ways to do things. Others just want to have balloons and arrows showing them every step of the way and never learn to think things through.

There is lots of info out there for the individual to learn and IMHO, groups should screen tightly to keep info close.
