Discover 2019 Calendar

Discover Adds Amazon, Target and Walmart to Bonus Categories

Discover offers 5% cash back bonuses on the first $1500 in spend each quarter (much like the Chase Freedom card). They release the full calendar at the beginning of the year. That helps map out your spending better. But now, they have added new merchants to the Q3 and Q4 categories, and everyone should be excited.

Discover 2019 Calendar Categories

In addition to restaurants in Q3, cardmembers can earn 5% cash back at the millions of places they check out online with PayPal. For Q4, Amazon.com is joined by Target and Walmart.com. As always, cardmembers will also earn 1% back on all other purchases, and Discover will automatically match all rewards new cardmembers have earned at the end of their first year, as part of its Cashback Match offering.

The categories are as follows:

  • January – March
    • Grocery Stores
  • April – June
    • Gas Stations, Uber, Lyft
  • July – September
    • Restaurants
    • PayPal
  • October – December
    • Amazon
    • Target
    • Walmart.com

Conclusion

It is nice of Discover to give us a heads up for the entire year. The addition of PayPal in the third quarter should be welcomed by everyone as that was probably the weakest quarter for 2019. Q4 was already good with Amazon, but Target and Walmart should offer more spending options.
