  1. I have stayed here 3 times. It is not a high end resort but the food and drinks are not bad at all. Flying in POP is about 30 mins away from the resort. STI is 1 1/2 to 2 hours away. I would not recommend renting a car as the traffic can be quite chaotic. I booked for mid Oct and am waiting to see what kind of band it comes with (regular, vip, super vip as the restaurant and bars are limited in the lower band). This is a mega-resort with lots of different accommodations starting with Lifestyle (the oldest part of the resort) up to 7 bedroom villas that are absolutely amazing. Any questions let me know. BTW this place used to have a special once a year for 12 or 19 a night I always went on those and ended up staying at the little bit nicer Confressi

  2. I stayed there in 2012 when they had a $12/night deal, all-inclusive like this, no hidden fees. Flew into POP using AA miles and I guess paid some taxes, but they weren’t significant enough to deter me. It was a perfectly nice resort with comfortable rooms and decent food. Aside from their timeshare sales pitch, I never figured out what the catch was. Oh yeah, the 3 other people in my party (but not me!) got a little sick from the tap water. Don’t even brush your teeth with it! They provide as much bottled water as you’d like, free of charge. Use it!

  3. Yup, hate that…. go to a world class resort and get a garden view….. kinda like forking over your Hyatt free nights to the new Cancun Ziva….. and all you can be sure of in advance is…. “garden view.” But, ok, in this case, for $29 a night, (!) for all-inclusive…. well, that could be quite nice. (assuming there’s no hidden resort fees or taxes piled on top when you get there?)

But just spent the past hour wondering just how to get to POP (nearest airport) on points (plus over $100 per person in extortion fees — aka taxes) Cash rates even several months in advance are over $550 per person…. Ok, but broadened the search to STI — and then the fares get more reasonable, from some east coast hubs– as both JetBlue & Spirit fly there…. Anybody have any quick thoughts on getting there?

Southwest only flies to Punta Cana — opposite end of the country…. and I’m not interested in car rentals…. Any veteran DR visitors here with travel hackers to get to this area?

  4. I have been to that resort and it’s pretty nice if you don’t mind the constant sale pitch for their Lifestyle timeshare. Also flights to Puerto Plata can be much more expensive than to other parts of Dominican Republic.
