IHG’s WEAK Accelerate Replacement – Double Plus More Promo Details
IHG has run the Accelerate promos each quarter for some time now. It was always a little bit of a craps shoot. Sometimes it would be amazing, 40K in points for 1 paid stay, and other times it would be worthless. Often it fell in the middle ground. But it was always exciting to see what you got. With their latest 4th quarter promotion it is like Accelerate and a Hilton promo had a baby and it is hideous.
Offer Details
The Double Plus More promo is a two pronged offer from IHG. The first part is the Double part, earn double points on all stays up to 15,000 (for most people). It starts on your second stay (what a stupid rule). This runs from 9/16-12/16/18.
The second part is the mini Accelerate esque part. This will vary by person and will award points for hitting stay numbers or visiting multiple brands etc. Here are the offers that my wife and I received:
Mine
- Earn double points on every stay, starting with your second stay, up to 30,000 bonus points.
- Book 2 stay(s) with the IHG® App and earn 6,400 bonus points.
My Wife
- Stay at 3 brands and get 19,200 bonus points.
- Earn 6,600 bonus points when you book 2 Bonus Points Package stay(s) and get to your next reward faster.
These would be a hard pass for me. If you are a road warrior where the company is picking up the tab then offers like this can be a nice little boost to your accounts.
Conclusion
I used to look forward to checking out my Accelerate promotions in the off chance that they were profitable. If IHG continues more along these lines I won’t have to worry about that much longer.
Let me know what offers you received in the comments section. And if you are going to take advantage of them or not.

Mine is earn double points up to 15k. Not even worth the 15 seconds it took to check it. I Have never paid for an IHG stay or transferred Ur pointe and I’ve stayed over 15 nights over the last three years. They have to convince me harder to pay a nickel at their properties.
My observation with IHG targeted task promotions is staying 2 or 3 times in the previous six months results in much better value promotions than no stays or many stays. No stays results in low value offers and lots of stays often results in tasks requiring many stays to earn bonuses.
I always do the minimum for IHG Accelerate to earn the bonus points and rarely complete additional stays. My promotions each time for past five years are generally high value.
This current offer requires me to stay in 3 different brands to earn 38,400 points.
3 nights and I am done with IHG until next promotion.
That is a good observation Ric – thanks for sharing
Agree that this is disappointing. However, the overly targeted Accelerate promotions sometimes made IHG loyalists feel unappreciated, especially when tasks were simply not realistic (e.g., staying at one of two EVEN hotels worldwide at the time or shifting all my HIX stays to CP). This looks like a loss for travel hacking, but a very understandable business decision for IHG.
Wow it’s crazy bad all I got was 15k Double Stay & 5,200 for using a corporate account 5 times.
I won’t be staying with IHG this quarter.
That is a pitiful offer
I have been an IHG loyalist for a long time and have participated in many of the Accelerated promotions.
This latest one is just garbage and not worth it unless a person happens to meet the requirements by default.
This is especially true with the recent spike in points requirements to stay at their top hotels. Instead of 50K, now I need 70K, so the 29K of maximum points that was offered to me is of very little value.
I’m hoping that this is not part of a deliberate plan to drastically water down the loyalty program.
With the new highly inflated points requirements for IHG, HH is now looking much better and something I am far more seriously considering staying at.
You would think with all of the Marriott/SPG issues they would be trying to attract people with their offers. Hilton does offer a better opportunity of earning points outside of paid stays.
You’re right. Only useful for those who would be staying already, so a foolish promotion by IHG that won’t drive any additional revenue.
