eBay Gift Card Sale
eBay has a tremendous gift card sale going on right now that stacks with a number of other promotions. Let’s take a look.
4X eBay Bucks + 3X or 5% from a Portal
Many members were targeted with a promotion giving 4X eBay Bucks (8% in rewards) on purchases of $150+. While the wording seems to indicate it only works on items that cost $150 or more, it will work as long as your total purchase is more than $150.
Additionally, both the AAdvantage and Alaska shopping portals are paying back 3X miles at eBay today. I love me some Alaska miles, so that would be my preferred method. Inbox Dollars still has their 5% deal going on as well if you favor cash back.
Combine for Huge Savings Including Possible 5X More
So you can combine 8% in eBay Bucks, 3X or 5% from a portal and your credit card rewards for a nice savings. Remember that purchases from Paypal Digital Gifts have earned 5X Ultimate Rewards points with Chase Ink in the past.
Since the majority of the cards on sale are from Paypal Digital Gifts, you could essentially earn, 8% + 3X or 5% + 5X plus the discount off face value! Let’s look at a quick example.
A Quick Example – 32% Off Face Value
Purchase a $100 Staples eGift card for $85 with a Chase Ink card and earn: $6.80 in eBay Bucks, 255 Alaska miles and 425 Ultimate Rewards points. Based on my valuations of the miles and points (1.5 cents each) the final price is $68. That amounts to a 32% discount!

Technically this is a bonus and not a discount. In other words, you are receiving $109.75 in value for a cost of $85. The $85 price you pay amounts to a 23% discount off the total $109.75 value of the items you are receiving. Still a great deal, though, and thanks for sharing!
Definitely no fault in your logic, although in my case I would count the eBay Bucks as cash since they are rolled into future deals and save me cash out of pocket. Either way, it is a good deal and I truly believe in everyone calculating their “value” however it makes sense to them. Thanks Jon!
Is there a limit? Should we do 1 big order? Thanks
Are you sure you get 4X Ebay Bucks on the total purchase value of your cart? I am not seeing that in the summary of my cart. It’s showing 5 x $125 + 1 x $100 = $225, but only $13.50 in Ebay Bucks which would be 3x.
Your math is wrong. Your total should be $725. There’s no way you are only earning $13.50 on that as 2% would be $14.50.. Anyway, I was able to figure out that the bonus is calculated per line item. For instance if you buy 3 X $50 of a gift card you will earn 8%. If you buy 2 X $50 of another gift card in the same cart you will only earn 6% on that part of it.
Sorry that was a typo: 5 X $25 + 1x $100 = $225 and only $13.50 in eBay Bucks. Would love to know for next time.
You made 6% (3X) on each like you said. See my post above and you’ll understand why.
hi,
how do you get 425 Ultimate Rewards points for the staple gc purchase? does chase ink give 5% cashback on ebay purchases?
thanks.
Purchase from Paypal Digital Gifts with a Chase Ink card have been known to code as utilities and earn 5X Ultimate Rewards.
I’m pretty sure the eBay Bucks T&C don’t allow earning on goods that are delivered electronically, so that disqualifies anything from paypal_digital_gifts.
I have purchased thousands of dollars during eBay Bucks promotions (including this one) and have always received the bucks. Gift cards are specifically included (except eBay gift cards). My guess is the exclusion of digital merchandise is referring perhaps to coupons or software or something else. Either way, the system shows you how much you are earning right when you are checking out.
