New BP Gift Card Deal & eBay Gift Card Primer
There have been a number of eBay gift card deals lately that I have written about both here and primarily over on Frequent Miler’s Quick Deals. Today one of my favorites has returned, so I thought I would show you why it is a good deal.
The Deal
Update: This item is out of stock, but the strategy laid out in the post will still work and several other cards are available. (See below.)
Update 2: It is back in stock as of Noon Pacific.Â
Purchase a $100 BP gift card for $90 with a limit of 3 per user id.
Initial Thoughts
So initially this looks like 10% off of gasoline. That is really good generally, but it is actually slightly better. Remember that you can earn up to 1.2% more through a portal and 2% back in eBay Bucks. So just based on that, your cost should be $87.12 per card. Not bad.
But what if you could earn 5X on this purchase? That would certainly make it more interesting. Well there is a way to do that, lets take a look.
eBay Gift Cards
Purchases of eGift cards through Paypal Digital Gifts earn 5X Ultimate Rewards points with the Chase Ink card. Good stuff. So you can purchase an eBay gift card and then turn around and use that to purchase the BP gift cards.
The one issue with eBay gift cards is they take up to 4 hours to activate properly. Sometimes deals don’t last that long. Gas card deals generally last longer than most, but this one has a limited quantity and won’t be around all day I don’t think. For this reason, I generally keep a stock of eBay gift cards around. Yes it does involve some float, but I have determined it to be worth it.
The New Math
So now that I can earn 5X on the purchase of these gift cards, I have $300 worth of cards that I paid only $261.36 for. Additionally, I have earned 1,350 Ultimate Rewards points. Things are looking up! But what if I don’t have any use for those gas cards? Well there is a solution!
Sell the Cards
Gas cards always generally sell for a very high price, since gas is a necessity for most people. Right now, you can easily sell these cards to five different resellers for 90%. (One is buying at 90.5%, but that most likely will drop.) This can of course always change, but generally prices stay relatively steady on these cards.
So if I sell the cards for 90% (the price I paid), I get to keep the eBay Bucks, portal cashback and the Ultimate Rewards points. In other words, you end up with a profit of $8.64 plus 1,350 points. If done right, this should take you less than 5 minutes on the buying end and 5 minutes on the selling end. You do have to mail the cards to sell them, however I generally just work that into my normal schedule.
Most eBay Gift Card Deals
I decided to single out this particular deal since we have seen it pop up a few times over the course of this year. These strategies really work for a number of deals on eBay and can help generate thousands of Ultimate Rewards points at a negative cost. Believe me, that is why I do it. I love me some Ultimate Rewards points and they really start to add up.
More Cards Still Available
SVM Gift Cards Still has more cards on sale from last week’s deals including a profitable 76 gas card deal that works much the same way as the BP one. Here are the cards that are still available:
- $100 76 Gift Card for $90 – Limit 3
- $200 Hyatt for $175 – Limit 2
- $50 Cabela’s Gift Card for $40 – Limit 5
- $25 Boston Market Gift Card for $20 – Limit 5
- $100 The Limited Gift Card for $85 – Limit 3
- $50 Spa & Wellness Gift Card for $40 – Limit 5
Conclusion
Today’s BP gift card deal has a little over 3,000 cards left as of this post, so I don’t know how long it will last. The deal is for today only anyway, so if you are interested, it is best to get in sooner rather than later. Hopefully this small primer will help you during this and every eBay gift card sale! Enjoy.

Well of course that Kroger deal is great and you should do that, but this was more about doing this on an ongoing basis.
